Our client, a highly respected national insurer, is seeking a Director of Corporate Property Underwriting to lead their commercial property portfolio. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned insurance leader who thrives on strategic influence, technical excellence, and people development.

The Opportunity

As the Director, you’ll play a key role in shaping underwriting strategy and guidelines for a as the technical referral point for underwriters across the country, while also collaborating closely with actuarial, claims, and risk services teams to drive profitable growth.

This is a leadership role suited to someone who’s both technically strong and people-focused — someone who enjoys mentoring others and contributing to the success of a high-performing underwriting team.

What You’ll Be Doing

Direct and oversee corporate property underwriting operations to ensure efficiency, consistency, and profitability.

Provide technical guidance and referrals to underwriters and leaders across multiple regions.

Develop, refine, and implement underwriting guidelines and wordings.

Identify trends, opportunities, and risks within the commercial property portfolio.

Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to enhance processes, tools, and systems.

Lead, coach, and mentor a team of talented professionals, fostering growth and continuous learning.

Contribute to strategic planning and portfolio management initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial property underwriting, with deep technical expertise.

At least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity.

Strong understanding of the Canadian commercial insurance marketplace and regulatory environment.

Strategic mindset with the ability to identify trends and drive improvement.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

CIP, FCIP, CRM, or related designations (or working toward) are considered assets.

Post-secondary education in business, finance, or a related discipline preferred.
