Job summary

BDC, Calgary, seeks a Director, Corporate Financing who will source, develop and recommend high quality transactions in line with credit policies and risk parameters. The role acts as a trusted advisor to entrepreneurs, building strong relationships and growing the Corporate Financing portfolio.

You will identify sectors with growth potential, structure opportunities to meet financing and consulting needs, and manage key account relationships to deliver profit while maintaining risk/return

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level degree in Commerce, Finance or Business Administration, accounting major.
  • Post-Graduate or CFA designation is an asset.
  • 7–10 years of relevant experience in corporate financing or advisory.
  • Strong business development and client relationship capabilities.
  • Able to sell financial services to sophisticated clients and manage opportunities independently.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and develop new opportunities for Corporate Financing and Consulting.
  • Build and grow a profitable loan portfolio with high service levels.
  • Plan and implement marketing plans aligned with portfolio objectives and profitability.
  • Perform due diligence and present proposals to underwriting with strong risk/return balance.
  • Maintain trusted advisor relationships to generate repeat business.
  • Engage with associations and financial institutions to advance Corporate Financing aims.
  • Stay informed on market conditions affecting the Corporate Financing community.

Director, Corporate Financing

The Director, Corporate Financing contributes to the growth of BDC Corporate Financing portfolio by sourcing, developing and recommending high quality transactions in accordance with BDC credit policies and risk parameters. The incumbent acts as a "trusted advisor" to entrepreneurs while delivering outstanding customer relationships. They identify business sectors with significant growth potential and structure opportunities to meet entrepreneurial financial or consulting needs. The incumbent develops and manages account and influencer relationships to grow BDC Corporate Financing assets and maintains an excellent risk/return ratio in line with BDC profitability objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify and develop new business opportunities for Corporate Financing and Consulting.
  • Develop and implement a customer relationship retention and growth strategy to build a long‑term profitable loan portfolio with existing and new clients while providing a high level of customer service.
  • Execute an individual marketing plan ensuring alignment with the Corporate Financing strategy and portfolio objectives while meeting financial objectives related to the forecasted loss rate, profitability, revenue growth and client retention.
  • Conduct proper investigation and due diligence activities on all proposals.
  • Pre‑qualify, structure and present proposals to the Corporate Financing Underwriting Group in accordance with BDC policies and procedures, including all appropriate analyses, documentation and an excellent risk/return ratio.
  • Act as a "trusted advisor" to Corporate Financing customers while delivering outstanding customer service to maintain ongoing relationships and repeat business.
  • Plan and conduct activities that promote BDC financial and consulting services, especially its capacity to handle major loans, and assist business centre management in coordinating business development activities in the regions.
  • Build ongoing and sustainable relationships with associations, influencers, financial institutions and others to help BDC achieve its Corporate Financing objectives.
  • Keep abreast of the general issues affecting the Corporate Financing business community, including market conditions, industry practices and financial results for existing and potential clients.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor in Commerce, Finance or Business Administration with a major in accounting.
  • Post‑Graduate degree in Business and/or CFA designation and/or relevant professional designation is an asset.
  • 7–10 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated strength in business development and client relationship skills.
  • Analytical business sense and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to sell financial services to demanding and sophisticated clients.
  • Ability to identify business opportunities for entrepreneurs who will benefit from the unique range of BDC services (financing and consulting).
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Highly organized and proactive.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
