Job summary

CBI Home Health in Winnipeg is seeking Direct Support Specialists to assist clients at home and in the community, promoting independence and quality of life. You will help with daily living activities, documentation, and companionship while working within a supportive team environment.

Flexible scheduling includes days and evenings; weekend work may be required. Certification in first aid/CPR and a clear background check are expected.

Qualifications

• Experience working with adults with intellectual and mental disabilities.
• Experience with clients with substance use and behavioural challenges.
• Valid Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
• Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector, Adult and Child registries.
• Grade 12 education; post-secondary preferred; DSW or HCA credentials.

Responsibilities

• Support clients to live independently and participate in community activities.
• Assist with daily living activities and life skills to promote well-being.
• Daily documentation and reporting of care provided.
• Meal planning and preparation support.

What you will do:

• Support clients with community involvement and independence to optimize the individual's quality of life
• Assist and teach daily living activities, and life skills to promote the self-esteem and well-being
• Daily documentation and reporting
• Menu planning and/or preparation
• Managing challenging behaviors and situations using CPI knowledge and principles
• Support clients with varied level of personal care (e.g. hand-over-hand, full support, etc.)
• Assisting with household activities and chores
• Companionship

What you will need to be successful

• Experience/knowledge of working with adult clients with intellectual and mental disabilities.
• Experience/knowledge of working with clients with alcohol and drug dependencies and behavioural challenges.
• Must have a valid certification in Basic first Aid and CPR.
• Required to have a clear Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector, Adult Abuse and Child Abuse Registry valid in the last 6 months.
• Minimum Grade Twelve education, preferably post-secondary, Developmental Service Worker Certificate,Health Care Aide certification or a combination of related education/experience.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment, sound decision making abilities and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.
