Job summary

CBI Home Health in Winnipeg is seeking Direct Support Specialists to join our local team. You will support clients with daily living activities, promote independence, and contribute to quality of life in the community.

Qualifications

  • Experience/knowledge of working with adult clients with intellectual and mental disabilities.
  • Experience/knowledge of working with clients with alcohol and drug dependencies and behavioural challenges.
  • Must have a valid certification in Basic first Aid and CPR.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector, Adult Abuse and Child Abuse Registry valid in the last 6 months.
  • Minimum Grade Twelve education, Developmental Service Worker Certificate, Health Care Aide certification or a combination of related education/experience.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment, sound decision making abilities and the capacity to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Support clients with community involvement and independence to optimize the individual’s quality of life
  • Assist and teach daily living activities, and life skills to promote the self-esteem and well-being
  • Daily documentation and reporting
  • Menu planning and/or preparation
  • Managing challenging behaviors and situations using CPI knowledge and principles
  • Support clients with varied level of personal care (e.g. hand-over-hand, full support, etc.)
  • Assisting with household activities and chores
  • Companionship
