Scope of Position
The Vice-President of Engineering is responsible for the successful execution of the company’s business mission through the development and deployment of the firm’s online presence in digital promotions, online retail product support, and digital e-commerce domains.
Functional Tasks
- Formulate technical strategies to support business objectives.
- Guide early-stage client engagement to leverage the firm’s capabilities and optimize response efficiency.
- Identify technology trends that could impact business success.
- Evaluate and select appropriate technology platforms for delivering services.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to establish governance processes ensuring objectives are met, risks are managed, and resources are used responsibly.
- Communicate the company’s technology strategy to management, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders.
- Oversee daily operations of existing and future B2C e-commerce websites.
- Strategize and implement new site features, functionalities, and promotions.
- Create wireframes, mock-ups, and participate in developing business requirements and functional specifications for large projects.
- Work with UML models.
- Support SEO, SEM, and other online advertising initiatives.
- Assist digital marketing resources in optimizing email and social media strategies for promotions and retail initiatives.
- Review and approve proposed development releases.
- Manage, hire, and retain technical team members, including conducting reviews and personal development planning.
- Develop and enforce technical policies.
- Address technical problems promptly and cost-effectively.
- Participate in managing annual operating and capital budgets.
- Ensure compliance with community expectations and laws regarding privacy, security, and social responsibility (e.g., COPPA, PIPEDA, PCI).

Preferred Experience / Education
Ideal candidates will have:

- Deep knowledge of web systems architecture and network protocols.
- Knowledge of web and mobile standards.
- Familiarity with internet marketing and SEO requirements.
- Understanding of information security vulnerabilities and risk management.
- Experience with software development lifecycle, preferably Agile methodology.
- At least eight years managing technical teams, with strong communication and project delivery skills.
- Experience with integrating web e-commerce platforms with ERP systems like NetSuite is a plus.
- Experience deploying multilingual, multi-territory, multi-currency e-commerce solutions is an asset.
