Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority in Northern Zone seeks a Dietitian to provide competent, safe, and ethical nutrition care to patients, families, and communities within a patient-centered, interprofessional team.

The role includes leading nutrition care, participating in internship programs, and collaborating across health sectors to promote health and manage dysphagia, enteral and parenteral nutrition, ensuring quality and continuity of care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at a recognized University
  • Dietetic Internship Program required
  • Current registration (or eligibility) with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Dietetics (NSRD) required
  • Minimum one (1) year working experience as a dietitian preferred
  • Inpatient clinical nutrition experience is an asset
  • Competency in dysphagia management, enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Experience counselling patients
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and work under pressure of time limitations
  • Demonstrated participation in continuing education and upgrading of skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the interprofessional healthcare team
  • Competencies in other languages an asset

Responsibilities

  • Provide competent, safe and ethical professional practice to the patient/client, family, and community.
  • Advise on diet and nutrition across all health sectors.
  • Provide leadership in team efforts to support the nutritional health of the patient, client/community.
  • Participate in the Integrated Dietetic Internship program, including Preceptoring Dietetic Interns.
  • Collaborate with health care team providers to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Contribute to health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, support and rehabilitation.

About the Opportunity

The Dietitian is responsible and accountable to provide competent, safe and ethical professional practice to the patient/client, family, and community. The Dietitian advises on diet and food and nutrition across all health sectors. The Dietitian is responsible for providing leadership in team efforts to support the nutritional health of the patient, client/community through health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, support and rehabilitation. The Dietitian is responsible to participate in the Integrated Dietetic Internship program, including but not limited to Preceptoring Dietetic Interns.
As a member of the inter-professional team, the Dietitian contributes to client care through collaboration with health care team providers, sharing nutrition expertise, ensuring quality and continuity of care and supporting a range of health care services. These services are provided within a holistic, client centered framework in accordance with our mission, vision, values, and strategic direction.

About You

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at a recognized University
  • Dietetic Internship Program required
  • Current registration (or eligibility) with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Dietetics (NSRD) required
  • Minimum one (1) year working experience as a dietitian preferred

  • Experience counselling patients
  • Current WHMIS an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and work under pressure of time limitations
  • Demonstrated participation in continuing education and upgrading of skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the interprofessional healthcare team
  • Competencies in other languages an asset

Hours
  • Permanent part-time position; 67.5 hours biweekly
  • Hours may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Compensation and Benefits

$37.27 - $51.62 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
