The Dietitian will provide nutrition care and support to children and their families, document care, and ensure nutrition education. Requires a Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition and relevant experience. Your Opportunity

This opportunity is for a Dietitian I to join the Alberta Children’s Hospital inpatient dietitian team under the direction of the Nutrition Services Manager. This Dietitian I is responsible for direct patient care and acts as a consultant for pediatric patients and their families in the inpatient setting. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team(s), he/she completes nutrition screening, assessment, formulates nutrition care plans, provides nutrition support and appropriate nutrition education for patients and their caregivers, documents nutrition care/recommendations and communicates with relevant health care professionals. The dietitian provides nutrition consultation to pediatric medical units for a wide variety of medical diagnoses from moderate to high nutritional risk utilizing all nutrition care modalities: oral, enteral and parenteral. He/she is available for weekend on call shifts as scheduled. This Dietitian actively integrates patient‑and family‑centered care principles into practice; has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrates critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills; has excellent time management and prioritization skills; and maintains continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development activities. This Dietitian has a strong background in providing & leading evidence‑informed nutrition care and plays an active role in the education of nutrition interns, nursing and medical staff.

Description

As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).

Additional Required Qualifications

Active or eligible for CDA Restricted Activity Permit to prescribe Parenteral Nutrition 10 (1) (c). Active or eligible for CDA Restricted Activity Permit to prescribe a Schedule 1 Drug 10 (1) (d). Minimum three or more years of experience in a pediatric tertiary care hospital.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with patients with complex pediatric medical diagnosis across the age continuum from infancy to adolescence. Evidence of advanced knowledge in pediatric nutrition support via enteral and parenteral means. Advanced skill in transitional (inpatient to outpatient) nutrition care working within interdisciplinary teams. Strong skill set in teaching nutrition care plans with patients and families.
