Job description
Overview

This is an opportunity for a Dietitian I to temporarily join the Diabetes & Endocrine (DE) Clinic interprofessional team at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. This Dietitian I reports directly to the Nutrition Services (NS) Manager, Pediatrics in Calgary Zone. The Dietitian I - DE is primarily responsible for the direct outpatient nutrition care for children with Diabetes & Endocrine Disorders. The dietitian does liaise with Patient Food Services as needed for in-hospital and day treatment patient care settings. Nutrition care will include but not limited to, consultation & nutrition care planning for primarily oral diets and for a smaller number of enterally fed children, optimizing growth and development. This Dietitian actively integrates patient-and family-centered care principles into practice; has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrates critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; has excellent time management and prioritization skills; and maintains continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development activities. This dietitian has a strong background in providing & leading evidence-informed nutrition care and plays an active role in the education of nutrition interns, nursing and medical staff. Responsibilities will also include participation in zone/program and/or provincial NS committees, research or quality improvement projects as required for meeting targets.

Responsibilities

As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).

Additional Required Qualifications

Two years’ experience working with pediatric patients and their families in an outpatient/inpatient multidisciplinary setting. Strong skill set in collaborative teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working within a Diabetes Program/Clinic. Experience with endocrine disorders & enteral feeding management. Acquired knowledge of behaviour change counselling and demonstrated effective translation of knowledge into practice with patients and families. Keen interest in quality & process improvement. Demonstrated proficiency with use of Microsoft 365 and other digital tools.
