Position Summary

Hours: 8‑hour days & evenings, Monday – Sunday, although subject to change with notice based on the needs of the organization. Required Qualifications
  • Member in good standing of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) or a future graduate actively pursuing registration with the CMRITO.
  • Graduate of an accredited program of Medical Imaging – Diagnostic Medical Sonography (unless a future graduate or student).
  • Current registration with Sonography Canada, or eligibility upon graduation.
  • Possess valid liability insurance as defined by the CMRITO, or eligible to obtain liability insurance upon registration.
  • Initiative, organizational, and decision‑making skills are essential.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal courteously and effectively with physicians, patients, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload.
  • Must be available to work all shifts including weekends, statutory holidays, and on‑call.
Duties
  • Perform all general and special ultrasound procedures such as MSK and vascular imaging in accordance with the Standards of Practice.
  • Responsible for the daily upkeep of equipment and ensuring an adequate level of products and supplies to support daily operations.
  • Archive/retrieve data to/from PACS.
  • Report equipment deficiencies to the Charge Technologist/Manager.
  • Instruct students during clinical rotation when required and participate in evaluating students’ progress.
  • Report to the radiologist any unusual or inconsistent findings arising during scanning procedures.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new technologists.
  • Demonstrate willingness to provide the highest quality service appropriate to the position based on the concept and philosophy of continuous and quality improvement.
  • Demonstrate courteous behavior through polite and respectful communication with all co‑workers and patients.
  • Participate in continuing education to increase professional growth and development.
  • Takes on call rotation with other sonographers as scheduled.
  • Maintain a general working knowledge of the provision of ultrasound services and also of the Diagnostic Imaging Department – policies and procedures.
  • Assist clerical staff with booking urgent ultrasound examinations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
Physical Demands Analysis

Strength: Requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling.

Mobility: Requires frequent standing and walking on hard surfaces; occasional walking, crouching/squatting; frequent bending/stooping, bending, twisting/turning, reaching.

Dexterity: Requires frequent handling of objects, gripping/grasping, and wrist movement; frequent fine finger movement.
