Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) invites applications for a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. You will perform abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular and small parts ultrasound examinations, observing patient safety and providing data entry into the imaging system.

Requirements include graduation from a recognized diagnostic sonography program and certification with Sonography Canada or ARDMS (or CCSA with Sonography Canada).

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Medical Diagnostic Sonography training program and certified with Sonography Canada or ARDMS, or Sonography Canada with CCSA.
  • BC Children's Hospital sites require two years of recent pediatric experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular and small parts ultrasound examinations.
  • Receives requisitions, enters data, prepares patients, and conducts examinations using ultrasound and Doppler techniques.

Salary Details

The salary range for this position is CAD $43.32/Hr. - CAD $54.04/Hr.

Job Summary

Are you the next Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)?

Practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as within a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of the department across the Lower Mainland Medical Imaging (LMMI) health authorities (Fraser Health, Providence Health Care, Provincial Health Services and Vancouver Coastal Health).

Performs abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular and small parts ultrasound examinations, observing patient safety practices. Duties include receiving and completing requisitions, entering relevant data into the diagnostic imaging information system, preparing patients for specific procedures, and conducting examinations utilizing ultrasound and Doppler techniques. Participates on committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Must be a graduate of a recognized training program in Medical Diagnostic Sonography and certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or be certified with Sonography Canada and have passed the Sonography Canada Skills Assessment (CCSA).
  • Positions located at BC Children's Hospital require a minimum of two (2) years' recent, related pediatric experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for Sonography procedures including abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular and small parts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the aseptic techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with diagnostic sonographic and medical imaging equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform sonographic examinations in compliance with departmental standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
