Applicants will have the opportunity to gain work experience in Home Care with no limited experience required! If you are new, or newly returning to the Health Care field and are unsure of where to start, do not fear! Qualifications
  • Development Services Worker (DSW) diploma from a recognized Board of Education or Community College
  • Membership with the Ontario Association on Developmental Disabilities (OADD) is an asset
  • The DSW must have a solid knowledge of how to effectively provide care for people with developmental disabilities including seniors and/or children
  • Current CPR certificate

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care service according to directions of the established care plan and ensure to continuously monitor the emotional, spiritual, functional, and physical comfort and safety of our clients
  • Provide personal care that is within the provincial scope of practice for a Personal Support Worker: Duties may include skin care, hair care, mouth care, bathing, bowel and bladder care, positioning and movement, exercise, basic wound care, feeding including special diets, assistance with oxygen administration and medication reminder
  • Provide personal services support to clients with special needs
  • Assess clients’ relevant skill strengths and development needs
  • Implement behaviour management programs
  • Understands and implements infection prevention practices
  • Adhere to Canadian Shield Health Care Services Policies and Procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses same only with appropriate Canadian Shield Health Care Services personnel
Skills and Abilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, and reach freely and able to freely lift 23 kg
  • Able to travel locally from assignment to assignment
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written in English
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in French is an asset
