Position Summary

The position of Development Landscape Reviewer will be reporting to the Manager of Development Engineering and will be a key role in ensuring that quality streetscapes, open spaces and trails continue to be a vital part of Brantford. This will include reviewing Planning applications and subdivision designs ensuing they meet the overall objective of the City and the Official Plan. Duties include but are not limited to :

  • Provide plans review of landscape designs, street tree layouts, trail designs for plans of subdivision, site plans, and infill developments;
  • Undertake site inspections as required to review elements such as private landscaping for Site Plans, tree preservation controls and conformance for the construction of all municipal street trees and open spaces within a newly developed subdivision or development;
  • Carry out background research, maintain databases and assist with the development and updating of policies, procedures and technical standards for development related to Open Spaces and Landscape features;
  • Respond to requests and / or attend meetings organized by the offices of the Mayor and Members of Council, other departments, developers, consultants, and the public and external agencies as required;
  • Complete site inspections to confirm conditions of trees and vegetation for development sites;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Possess a minimum three (3) year diploma or degree in Landscape Architecture or Environmental Planning or equivalent education;
  • Certified and in good standing as a Registered Professional Forester or Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture;
  • Over three (3) years of experience in Landscape design with emphasis on Land Development and Planning Act applications and asset;
  • Comprehensive understanding and technical knowledge of municipal infrastructure, urban planning processes, including knowledge of Provincial regulations including Planning and Municipal Acts;
  • Time Management skills, with the ability to manage multiple and changing demands and priorities are required;
  • Must be proficient in reading and interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications and planning / engineering reports and documents;
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential to work autonomously representing the City during meetings;
  • Experience working with computer applications including Microsoft Office, G.I.S. systems, Adobe Acrobat Pro; knowledge of Bluebeam Revu would be an asset;
  • Possess a valid driver's license in good standing during the course of employment.

As a condition of employment, proof of current and valid certificate(s) and / or educational qualifications will be required.
