We support work-life balance, promote physical and psychological safety, and offer competitive wages, pensions, and benefits. Together we make Calgary a great place to make a living, a great place to make a life. The City is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive and equitable workplace which is representative of the community we serve. You’ll work closely with applicants and City partners through the Development Applications Review Team (DART) process, supporting timely and coordinated review of mobility and engineering issues.

Policy Planning (LAP/ASP) Stream: Provide and coordinate transportation and engineering expertise for Local Area Plans (LAPs) and Area Structure Plans (ASPs). You’ll serve as a core team member working with many internal and external partners supporting long-range plans, ensuring that transportation networks (all modes), street design, and infrastructure phasing in established communities and greenfield areas align with the City’s policies and growth strategies. This work is foundational to how Calgary grows and moves and sets the stage for future development.

Responsibilities
  • Represent Development Engineering and transportation interests at DART meetings and in policy planning projects (LAPs, ASPs, and City Building initiatives).
  • Collaborate and negotiate with applicants, planners, and City specialists to find innovative, practical solutions to mobility and infrastructure challenges.
  • Apply technical expertise in areas such as transportation impact assessments, functional planning, geometric design, operations, construction phasing, and access management.
  • Balance City-building objectives with industry needs to ensure safe, timely, and effective delivery of transportation infrastructure.
  • Interpret and communicate policies and standards to internal and external partners, contributing to continuous improvement of review processes.
  • Participate on cross-corporate working groups and committees representing transportation and mobility engineering interests.
  • Review and negotiate legal agreements related to subdivisions, development permits, and land use amendments.
  • Represent the Development Engineering Mobility section at Calgary Planning Commission, Infrastructure Planning Commission, public meetings, the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, and Council as required.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Civil Engineering.
  • You must have at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng.
