Job description

currents.dev is the CI test orchestration and analytics platform for Playwright. Engineering teams use us to run their end-to-end test suites in parallel, debug flaky tests with rich replay data, and ship faster with confidence.

We are a small, profitable, engineering-focused company headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, with a fully distributed team of experienced engineers. Our customers are engineering teams at scale-ups and enterprises who care deeply about test reliability, CI speed, and shipping quality software. Our community of QA and platform engineers is the engine of our growth.

Our customers are top-tier engineering teams from AWS, Wiz.io, Cursor, Perplexity, LangChain, Autodesk, RedHat, n8n, Saleforce, Snowflake and more.

About the role

We are hiring our first dedicated Developer Relations and Marketing Engineer to own howengineers discover, learn, and fall in love with Currents.

This is a hybrid role that sits between engineering, marketing and sales. You will create technical content, tutorials and example apps, help our customers with adopting Currents, discover opportunities to improve Currents, share customer success stories, and use AI tools aggressively to multiply the quality and output.

You will have unusual surface area and ownership for someone joining a company at this stage — you will be the company face and mouth shaping developer-facing narrative for Currents with high level of autonomy.

If you're a QA, SDET or Platform engineer who has loves devtools, platforms, loves helping other engineers, explain complex topics and provide real value for your peers via a blog, YouTube channel, or speaking, this may be the full-time version of the work you've already been doing.

If you are a marketing specialist who is well familiar with software / developer culture, not afraid to explore and dive into technical topics (with guideance and help) care about producing non-slop, high quality materials that resonate the the audience, this job can also be a good match.

What you'll do
  • Create technical content that QA, SDET and platform engineers actually want to read: tutorials, deep-dives on CI and Playwright internals, comparisons, CI/CD recipes, debugging guides, and post-mortem-style engineering stories.
  • Build, maintain and improve our documentation, tutorials, examples, demo application, benchmarks, demo applications, sample repositories, integrations, and code that proves Currents works for real test suites in real CI pipelines.
  • Collaborate with our power users, surface insights back to the product team, and turn power users into advocates.
  • Partner with the founder on customer conversations — qualifying discovery calls, technical demos, and the occasional "let me jump in and help you debug this flaky test" moment.
  • Collaborate with the founder, growth lead and engineering team on product, positioning, roadmap and overall company direction.
  • Educate, collaborate with educators and build materials to empower our customers and community.
  • Own the and operate Currents public presence in the broader community.
  • Use AI tools such as Claude and Cursor aggressively to multiply your output and quality across writing, code samples, video editing, and research. We expect this. We don't tolerate slop.
  • Measure what's working. Report on funnel metrics, content performance, community growth, and pipeline contribution. Iterate accordingly.
What we're looking for
Background and experience
  • A DevRel, QA, SDET, Platform Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Marketing or Sales specialist with background in deploying, improving or reviewing devtools. Ideally you’re familiar with challenges of writing, running and fixing tests in CI, have experience with popular testing frameworks and you understand the pain of a flaky CI pipeline at 2 a.m.
  • Four or more years of hands-on experience. Prior DevRel or marketing experience is welcome but not required — we'd rather hire a strong engineer moving into DevRel than a career DevRel with no testing background.
Technical skills
  • Strong working knowledge of modern web development technologies.
  • Familiarity and interest in devtool in hybrid areas like CI, devops, frontend development, testing, observability.
  • Comfort in a terminal, reading other people's test suites, and setting up local development environments.
  • Familiarity with CI platforms such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI, GitLab CI, or Buildkite.
  • Fluent use of AI tools in your day-to-day workflow. You can show us how AI makes you three times faster, not three times noisier.
Content and communication
  • A public portfolio of technical content. This could be a personal blog, a YouTube channel, conference talks (any size), OSS contributions, published courses, or a substantive LinkedIn presence. Size matters less than evidence that you can teach and explore in public.
  • Near-native, idiomatic English in both writing and speech. You will be the voice of Currents to thousands of engineers.
  • Comfort on camera and on calls. Webinars, demos, and customer conversations should energize you, not drain you.
Working style
  • Working hours that overlap meaningfully with Vancouver (Pacific Time). Realistically that means you're based somewhere in the Americas, the UK, or Western or Central Europe.
  • Self-directed, comfortable owning outcomes without heavy oversight, and able to prioritize ruthlessly across content, community, and customer work.
Nice to have
  • Prior DevRel, technical writing, or developer marketing experience.
  • Experience with sales-adjacent work such as customer discovery, technical demos, or partner enablement.
  • Contributions to Playwright, or adjacent OSS testing tools.
What we offer
  • $100,000–$150,000 adjusted to geography and experience.
  • Meaningful equity in a profitable, growing company.
  • Fully remote, asynchronous-friendly work environment.
  • Health benefits appropriate to your country, provided through our Employer of Record or as a stipend where applicable.
  • Conference and travel budget. We'd love to send you to the events where our community gathers, and to fly you out for team offsites.
  • Real ownership of the DevRel function, and the ability to see your work ship and reach thousands of engineers.
