Job description
Design Project Manager - Civil (Water/Wastewater Construction)

Maple Reinders is currently looking to add an experienced Design Project Manager to our Major Projects team in Burnaby, BC. The successful candidate will be focusing on projects in our Civil division.

As the Design Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading the technical development of our RFP proposals and ensuring that the execution/project team has been brought up to speed by being the bridge between the pursuit team and the execution/project team. Your passionate spirit for your craft will be evident in the efforts you put forth and your team focus will help in coordinating the work that you deliver.

Responsibilities
  • Providing technical expertise to the pursuit team;
  • Working with the pursuit team to assist in developing winning strategies, plans and schedules.
  • Being involved at the RFP stage to provide technical support.
  • Leading divisional resources in developing the estimate for pursuits.
  • Managing design consultants to ensure an effective and timely design that meets the construction budget and schedule requirements for the project.
  • Identifying concerns with the design for constructability, cost and schedule.
  • Presenting and co-presenting presentations to clients on technical aspects of the design.
  • Developing relationships with design and technical firms.
  • Assist in selecting design and technical firms for projects.
  • Attending industry events making presentations as required.
  • Disseminating information from the project pursuit to the project team.
  • Being embedded in the execution team by finalizing the design.
  • Communicating the design and construction plan to the execution team.
  • Being available to the execution team in an advisory capacity during construction.
  • Coordinating and managing value engineering sessions internally and externally to find value added scope and maximize savings to project budgets.
  • Assisting the execution team develop a commissioning plan and being a resource during commissioning as sponsored.
Qualifications / Skills
  • University degree in Engineering, and/or Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma, or a combination of education and industry experience.
  • At least 10 years experience as a Project Manager, a Construction Administrator or a Design Project Manager in the construction industry.
  • Experience in Industrial, Commercial, Water/Wastewater, Energy projects, and civil infrastructure construction.
  • Well rounded knowledge of all construction disciplines i.e. civil, structural, process, mechanical and electrical.
  • Professional Designation preferred - P. Eng and/or Gold Seal.
  • Proficient MS Office and Windows-based computer applications skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, etc.).
  • The ability to use/learn industry specific software programs such as BIM360, and SharePoint, MS Project.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
