Job summary

Valard Construction is seeking a Design Integration Lead in Port Hawkesbury, NS. The role focuses on coordinating civil, architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and controls design disciplines to ensure constructibility and prevent rework.

Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, you will manage the design interface, track deliverables, resolve clashes, support procurement on long-lead equipment, and coordinate design reviews at 30/60/90% stages.

Qualifications

• Post-Secondary education in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field
• Experience coordinating design packages across multiple disciplines on large-scale projects
• Experience managing RFIs, multi-stage design reviews (30/60/90%), and drawing/version control across consultants
• Experience with design/BIM coordination tools (Navisworks, BIM 360, Revit)

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical bridge between design, engineering, and construction, ensuring coordination across disciplines
• Own the design interface management process and track deliverables against milestones
• Identify and resolve conflicts early to prevent schedule impacts
• Manage RFI processes between design team, subcontractors, and site personnel
• Review design packages for compliance with specs, codes, and vendor data
• Coordinate design reviews at 30%, 60%, and 90% submission stages
• Manage version control and drawing issuance across consultants
• Act as authority on design integration to prevent rework
• Complete other design and project-related tasks as directed by the Director of Technical Services

Our Technical Services group is currently looking to add a Design Integration Lead to our growing team, based in Port Hawkesbury, NS.

Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, we are seeking a detail-oriented design integration professional with proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary design packages on large-scale construction projects. We need someone with the proven skills, competencies, and capacity to act as the technical bridge between design and construction — catching design integration issues before they become costly rework or schedule slippage — and will support mission-critical infrastructure construction projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical bridge between design, engineering, and construction, ensuring civil, architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, controls, and other design disciplines are fully coordinated and constructible prior to and during field execution
• Own the design interface management process, tracking design deliverables against project milestones and flagging dependencies across disciplines
• Identify and resolve conflicts and clashes between disciplines (e.g., mechanical and electrical) before they impact schedule or budget
• Manage the RFI process between the design team, subcontractors, and site personnel, ensuring timely and accurate resolution
• Review and validate design packages for compliance with client specifications, code requirements, and equipment vendor data
• Partner with procurement to ensure long-lead equipment specifications remain aligned with the evolving design
• Coordinate design reviews at the 30%, 60%, and 90% submission stages
• Manage version control and drawing issuance across multiple design consultants
• Act as an authority on design integration, catching issues early to prevent costly rework and schedule slippage
• Complete other design and project-related tasks assigned by the Director of Technical Services

Requirements

• Post-Secondary education in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field
• Experience in design coordination, design integration, or construction management, ideally on industrial, or other large-scale infrastructure projects
• Working knowledge of civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls design disciplines
• Experience managing RFIs, multi-stage design reviews (30/60/90%), and drawing/version control processes across multiple consultants

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

• Experience with design/BIM coordination tools (e.g., Navisworks, BIM 360, Revit)
• Familiarity with data center design and construction standards
• Experience working directly with procurement on long-lead equipment specifications
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively across design, construction, and procurement teams
