The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Corporate Services department is seeking a full-time Deputy Treasurer !
Position Summary

Reporting to the Treasurer, Director of Corporate Services, the Deputy Treasurer role is responsible for financial reporting and analysis, accounting, payroll, budgeting, audit preparation, and supporting asset management and capital planning. The Deputy Treasurer also provides day-to-day oversight of a team of finance staff and Treasury operations, and ensures internal controls and financial policies are being followed. This position assumes the duties of the Treasurer in their absence.

  • Manage and provide oversight to a team of finance staff.
  • Manage the financial and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate reporting and meeting statutory requirements, including operating, reserves and tangible capital assets.
  • Prepare the Year End Financials for review by the Auditor and approval of Council.
  • Manage the audit process.
  • Oversee the departmental and consolidated monthly financial reporting for Council
  • Oversee and manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking and payroll.
  • Oversee and manage the Tax Policy and Tax Levy process with the Lower Tiers and make recommendations to Council.
  • Work closely with the Treasurer in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Responsible for various Provincial and Federal reporting, including the Financial Information Return (FIR).
  • Monitor internal controls to ensure compliance and make recommendations to enhance or refine policies.
  • Assist with the asset management planning process.
  • Assumes the role of Treasurer in their absence.
  • Performs special assignments or other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education
  • Equivalent to University graduation with professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA or CA).
  • Up to 9 years previous accounting experience plus 1 year on-the-job to gain understanding and knowledge of funding possibilities, knowledge of each department’s funding and activity.

Preferred Skills:

  • Working knowledge of GAAP, PSAB (Public Sector Account Board) Standards, municipal
  • Working knowledge of financial legislation/regulations including the Municipal Act and the Assessment Act.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem solving, communication, research, financial and time-management skills.
  • Leadership skills, including staff performance management, coaching, training, recruitment and retention.
  • Proficiency working in a computerized environment, specifically Microsoft Office
  • applications, including advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and tasks, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and apply new technology as it relates to financial software and systems.
  • Demonstrated customer focus and ability to build strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders; commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with departmental and corporate contacts at all levels
Competitive Compensation
  • $58.77 – $68.75 per hour; as per the 2025 non-union pay grid
  • Paid time off
