Webuild has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line and we are currently seeking an Deputy Construction Tunnel Manager.

This position is a full-time 100% onsite position at our downtown office and / or our construction site.

Reporting to: Tunnel Construction Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Deputy Construction Tunnel Manager to support the PTUS Ontario Line project. This role will oversee tunnel construction activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and contractual obligations. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in tunnel excavation methods, project management, and stakeholder coordination to ensure the successful delivery of this critical transit infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Tunnel Construction Management:
  • Oversee tunneling operations utilizing 2 TBMs EPB Ø 7.0m, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations under the PTUS Ontario Line agreement.
  • Supervise and coordinate the mechanized tunneling construction work, including scheduling, procurement, logistics, safety, quality, commissioning, and handover.
  • Ensure the timely procurement of materials, parts, tools, and equipment to support tunneling operations.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and leadership to project teams across multiple tunneling activities, ensuring safe construction of the tunnels.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and completion of tunnel construction activities, ensuring alignment with project timelines and performance objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, maintaining an updated Project Risk Register.
  • Conduct and participate in constructability reviews and construction readiness assessments.
  • Ensure project compliance with safety, environmental, cost, schedule, and quality standards.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly scope progress meetings, technical meetings, and steering committees.
  • Enhance communication flow between different project teams and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate work activities with other Construction Managers to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and the public.
  • Supervise, mentor, and coach project personnel to enhance team performance.
  • Support project teams in developing construction plans and engineering methodologies.
  • Promote best practices and continuous improvement within the tunneling operations team.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in construction, with at least 5 years in a lead tunneling role.
  • Strong background in mechanized tunnel construction.
  • Experience with transit project delivery and handover of tunnel assets.
  • Extensive experience in subway and transit tunnel projects, from construction to delivery and asset handover.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and risks effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and scheduling tools.
  • Excellent ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Prior experience in rail and transit construction projects is essential.
