Job description

MacEwan University is where caring faculty help people connect their passions to their future paths. Located in the heart of Edmonton's diverse and dynamic downtown community, and on the traditional lands of Treaty 6 First Nations and homelands of the Métis people, MacEwan is known for exceptional undergraduate learning. With its dedication to teaching excellence, informed by scholarly research, innovation, and creative activity, MacEwan provides an exceptional collaborative and supportive learning environment with a commitment to human rights, environmental sustainability, and opportunities for community engagement. We are committed to creating an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and welcoming community for all peoples, cultures, and identities.

Guided by Teaching Greatness: Strategic Vision 2030, MacEwan is focused on exceptional undergraduate teaching and bold innovation. With over 21,000 students enrolled across over 55 programs of study in four faculties and two schools, the University offers a connected, learner‑centred culture that emphasizes critical thinking, community‑based learning, and high‑quality student support.

Recently renamed in recognition of a transformative gift from entrepreneur and community leader Ron Triffo, the Triffo School of Business is a dynamic and growing business school at MacEwan University. Distinguished by its entrepreneurial spirit, strong undergraduate focus, and deep connections to the Edmonton business community, the School offers a comprehensive portfolio of degree, diploma, and certificate programs that prepare students to lead, innovate, and create value in a rapidly evolving global economy. Accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), the School combines academic rigor with practical, real‑world learning opportunities that connect students with industry, community, and experiential learning. Building on a proud history of graduate success and supported by a highly engaged community of faculty, staff, alumni, and partners, the School is entering an exciting new phase of growth. The opening of the new 35,000-square‑metre Triffo School of Business building in January of 2027 will further enrich MacEwan's vibrant downtown campus, creating dynamic spaces for learning, collaboration, innovation, and community engagement while supporting the School's continued growth and impact across Edmonton, Alberta, and beyond.

Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President, Academic, the Dean provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership to one of MacEwan University's largest and fastest‑growing academic units. The Dean will advance a compelling vision for the School that builds on its reputation for teaching excellence, student success, community engagement, and growing scholarship. As a member of the University's senior leadership team, the Dean will guide the School through a period of significant growth and transformation, strengthening its academic programs, fostering excellence in teaching, experiential learning, and research, and championing a culture that is collaborative, inclusive, and student‑centred. A visible and engaged ambassador for the School, the Dean will cultivate meaningful relationships with industry, government, alumni, donors, and community partners to enhance the School's profile and reputation. As a champion for the Triffo School of Business, the Dean will articulate a compelling vision for the School, amplify its distinctive strengths, and strengthen its brand and reputation as a leading business school with deep connections to industry and community.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service to qualify for an appointment as a full professor; with a demonstrated record of progressive leadership experience within a complex university environment. They will be a strategic and future‑focused leader who can advance long‑term priorities, identify opportunities for growth and partnership, and guide a dynamic School through growth and change while building trust, alignment, and a strong sense of community. The ideal candidate will lead with integrity, foster meaningful relationships, communicate with authenticity and transparency, and effectively advocate for the interests of the School and University. With strong strategic and financial acumen, exceptional communication skills, and a deep commitment to student success, and faculty and staff engagement, the next Dean will drive innovation, elevate the School's distinctive reputation and external profile, and position the Triffo School of Business for continued success and impact.

MacEwan University is committed to fostering the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion within our community, and we are dedicated to removing barriers that have been historically encountered and are currently experienced by some members of our society. We welcome and encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, racialized persons, visible minorities, women, persons with disabilities, sexual and gender minorities, and members of all equity‑deserving groups. We believe that the diversity of our students, staff, and faculty serves as a strength of our institution and benefit to society. We are committed to ensuring full and inclusive participation for all in our community. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
