Carleton University is seeking an innovative, inclusive, collaborative leader to serve as the next Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Design (FED).
The Dean, reporting to the Provost and Vice‑President (Academic), will provide visionary strategic direction, academic planning, and administrative oversight to advance the Faculty’s teaching and research initiatives. The Dean will manage the Faculty’s human, physical, financial, and administrative resources, collaborate with academic, industry, alumni, and public sector partners, and raise the Faculty’s impact, resources, and reputation.
The Dean will work closely with six Associate Deans—Research, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, Engineering Practice, Policy & Planning, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Student Success—one Assistant Dean (Special Projects), four Department Chairs, and three School Directors, and will act as a key advocate and representative for Carleton and FED, fostering links within the University, industry, community partners, and alumni worldwide.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished scholar and administrator with demonstrated success in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education; leadership in research strategy, team development, and institutional research culture; excellence in teaching, large grant award management, large financial portfolio oversight, and sustainable academic and administrative system building. The candidate must be eligible for appointment as a Full Professor and a Professional Engineer in good standing, eligible to practice in Canada. The Dean will possess an open, collegial, creative problem‑solving style, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
