Job summary

PwC Canada is seeking a Restructuring Director to join our deals team in Toronto. You will source mandates, lead advisory and restructuring engagements, and support the growth of the team.

Expect a hands-on role coordinating distressed M&A activities and development of detailed financial forecasts. You will bring professional accounting credentials or equivalent, substantial restructuring experience, and the ability to travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

  • Professional accounting designation or international equivalent demonstrating financial, business or management expertise.
  • Equivalent years of experience in a professional services or business advisory environment.
  • Specific financial restructuring, operational restructuring or insolvency experience, including advising debtors and creditors under major Canadian acts.
  • Pursuing or holding CIRP designation (CAIRP) and Licensed Insolvency Trustee designation (OSB).
  • Strong technical skills to evaluate financial results and detailed cash flow forecasts.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and report writing skills, including court reports and complex deliverables.
  • Strong project management and leadership of high performing teams.
  • Solid client relationship development and business development abilities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% within Canada and internationally.
  • Hybrid work environment expectations are discussed with interviewer.

Responsibilities

  • Source new restructuring mandates and lead advisory and restructuring mandates.
  • Develop and implement turnaround or realization plans to maximize recoveries for stakeholders.
  • Conduct financial analyses and build cash flow forecasts and models.
  • Develop business plans to support turnaround plans.
  • Coordinate with tax, regulatory and legal considerations in plan development.
  • Lead distressed M&A or refinancing activities.
  • Prepare high-quality presentations and reports for stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholders and drive change during court and out-of-court processes.
  • Mentor team members through learning and feedback.

In deal recovery management at PwC, you will focus on helping clients navigate financial distress and recover from challenging business situations. You will be responsible for providing strategic advice and solutions to optimise recovery outcomes.

The Opportunity:

As a Restructuring Director, you will work with the partner team to source new restructuring mandates, lead teams to execute advisory & restructuring mandates and support the development and growth of our restructuring team generally. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Actively participating in and initiating business development activities to source new mandates
  • Helping develop and implement turnaround plans or realization plans with the goal of maximizing recoveries to stakeholders
  • Conducting financial analysis and developing financial and cash flow forecasts including the development of detailed models and conducting sensitivity analysis
  • Applying your business acumen to develop or assess business plans to support turnaround plans
  • Working with additional advisors to integrate tax, regulatory and other legal considerations into the development of turnaround or realization plans
  • Coordinating the execution of distressed M&A or refinancing activities
  • Assisting in the preparation of high-quality presentations and/or reports for key stakeholders
  • Taking a “hands-on” role to manage stakeholders and lead change
  • Running in-Court and out of Court restructuring or realization processes
  • Supporting the learning and development of team members through the delivery of quality in-flight learning during the execution of mandates and the provision of regular feedback

What You’ll Bring:
  • A professional accounting designation, or international equivalent, or similar post-graduate designation demonstrating financial, business or management expertise
  • Equivalent years of experience in a professional services or business advisory environment
  • Specific financial restructuring, operational restructuring or insolvency experience, including experience advising debtors and creditors, and acting pursuant to appointments under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act
  • Pursuing or holding the CIRP designation provided by the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP) and the Licensed Insolvency Trustee designation provided by the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB)
  • Strong technical skills, including the ability to evaluate financial results and detailed financial/cash flow forecasts
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication and report writing skills, including experience with court reports and complex deliverables
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to lead high performing project teams
  • Solid client relationship development and business development abilities
  • The ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time within Canada and internationally

The salary range for this position is $152,000 - $202,000. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for PwC locations in major city centres. Given our national recruiting approach, ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At PwC Canada, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may have opportunities to participate in variable incentive pay programs which are designed to reward individual and firm-wide achievements.
