The Deaf/Blind Intervenor will act as a communicator/facilitator between a student who is deaf/blind and his/her environment under the direction of the teacher(s). It is a vital link in a reactive setting, not as a teacher, but as a means of communication and interpretation.
Responsibilities include receiving and interpreting information, relaying information using sign language or other methods, and supporting health, safety, and academic needs across various school environments.

The Deaf Blind Intervenor forms a vital link in a reactive setting, not as a model or teacher, but as a means of communication and as an aid to interpretation.
Two year Community College Diploma in related field (e.g. Deaf and Blind Support Specialist Program or Intervenor for deaf/blind persons) plus two years’ experience working with deaf/blind students in an educational setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to use effective technological devices to assist students
Skills in alternative forms of communication as required by specific students.
To meet the needs of an individual student, additional qualifications will include one or more of the following:
American Sign Language (ASL)
Braille (EBAE uncontracted and contracted braille, UEB uncontracted and contracted braille)
Two-handed manual alphabet
Signed Exact English
Total Communication
Large Print Notetaking
$40.95 per hour (effective September 1, 2025)
3.8% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates
Up to 7 hours per day between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm (based on operational requirements)
To support our students and to continue on our roster, replacement staff are required to work a minimum of 60 days during the school year.
