Job summary

The Data and Outcomes Department is responsible for leading the organization’s research, data management, reporting, and outcomes measurement functions. The department works collaboratively with leadership and program teams to develop, implement, and maintain effective data systems that support evidence-informed decision making, program evaluation, and organizational accountability.

The Position:

We are looking fora full time Data Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Research, the Data Specialist is responsible for supporting data-driven decision-making across Hull Services. The Data Specialist will work with frontline providers to support their understanding and use of client data to improve client care and service delivery. The Data Specialist will also support agency leaders to understand broader trends at the agency to inform contracts and strategic directions.

This role works collaboratively with the Data Systems Administrator to ensure accurate data collection and management, and with the Pathways to Prevention program to integrate research, training and practice across the agency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a map of all client data collected at the agency to understand what is being collected, how it is being used, and for what purpose.
• Analyze data collected across the agency to understand the relationship between services and outcomes.
• Take a lead role in outcomes reporting by analyzing data across programs and coordinating efforts across agency.
• Support staff to understand how they can access and utilize administrative data to track client progress, and personalize approaches to care.
• Understand staff challenges with accessing and utilizing data to better support staff in using data to improve care.
• Collaborate with direct care programs to identify what outcomes to track for continuous quality improvement and outcomes reporting to funders.
• Collaborate with Pathways to Prevention program to conduct research on developmental trauma prevention and intervention.
• Collaborate with People and Culture and Occupational Health and Safety teams to use data to support workforce safety and wellness.
• Maintain a continuous learning mindset and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
• Perform other related tasks and duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Mathematics, or Computer Science) or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Three to five years of relevant experience, including experience in data systems administration and analysis.
• Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and present information with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of statistical concepts and experience applying them to analyze datasets.
• Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn new software as required.
• Experience working with databases, data analysis software, data visualization tools, and reporting platforms is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to run queries, write reports and present findings to a variety of audiences.
• Knowledge of privacy legislation and best practices related to the collection, storage, and use of personal information.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with a methodical and creative approach, as well as strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal qualities including flexibility, effective communication and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated interest, commitment, consistency, and a high level of self-awareness, personal maturity and responsibility.
• Ability to work both independently and effectively in a team setting.
• Self-motivated, positive and able to take initiative.
• Cross-cultural competence, including knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and its recommendations, goals and activities.
