Job summary

Aurora Cannabis Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain enterprise data pipelines and warehouse structures.

You will translate business needs into scalable Azure-based data solutions, focusing on quality, reliability, and performance. You will collaborate with stakeholders to support BI, analytics, and reporting, while applying CI/CD practices and documenting data lineage and architecture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • 3–5 years of data engineering experience including pipelines and data warehousing.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, in production.
  • Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics and data tooling.
  • Proficient in SQL and programming languages like Python or C#.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD for data solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain scalable batch and near-real-time data pipelines.
  • Develop end-to-end data integration supporting data warehouse and analytics.
  • Configure and maintain data solutions using Azure services (Data Factory, Data Lake, Databricks).
  • Translate requirements into data flows, architectures, and specs.
  • Implement data quality controls and monitoring for reliability.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Business Intelligence & Analytics, the Data Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise data integration and processing solutions. The position develops and supports data pipelines, data warehouse structures, and related data infrastructure used for business intelligence, reporting, and analytics.

The Data Engineer integrates data from multiple source systems, translates business and technical requirements into data solutions, and maintains processes and controls related to data quality, reliability, availability, and performance. As a Data Engineer you will…
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain scalable batch and near-real-time data pipelines that integrate data from enterprise applications, databases, cloud platforms, and other data sources.
  • Develop end-to-end data integration and processing solutions that support the organization’s data warehouse, reporting, business intelligence, and analytics requirements.
  • Design, develop, configure, and maintain data solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies and related components, including Data Factory, Data Lake, Databricks, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and other applicable services.
  • Translate business and technical data requirements into detailed solution designs, data flows, pipeline architecture, transformation logic, and technical specifications.
  • Develop and implement automated processes for data ingestion, transformation, validation, monitoring, and delivery to improve reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor data pipelines and integration processes, troubleshoot failures and data issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative solutions.
  • Implement data quality controls, validation processes, and reconciliation procedures to support the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity of enterprise data.
  • Optimize data pipelines, queries, data models, and processing workflows to improve performance, scalability, reliability, and efficient use of computing resources.
  • Support the design and maintenance of data warehouse structures, data models, schemas, and related data architecture in accordance with organizational standards and business requirements.
  • Apply organizational standards and practices related to data security, privacy, governance, access controls, retention, and the appropriate handling of organizational data.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including data mappings, data lineage, transformation logic, pipeline designs, system configurations, operating procedures, and troubleshooting information.
  • Apply source control, testing, deployment, and CI/CD practices to support reliable and controlled development and release of data solutions.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, application teams, and other technical resources to understand data needs, resolve issues, and deliver solutions that support organizational priorities.
  • Provide technical support for production data solutions and contribute to the continuous improvement, modernization, and standardization of the organization’s data environment.
  • Research and evaluate emerging data technologies, tools, and practices and recommend opportunities to improve the organization’s data engineering capabilities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in data engineering, data integration, data warehousing, or a closely related field, including experience designing, developing, implementing, and supporting enterprise data pipelines and data solutions.
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, in a production environment.
  • Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics.
  • Experience with source code management and development tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, Git, and Visual Studio.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD processes for data solutions.
  • Experience integrating data from ERP, CRM, or other enterprise business systems.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, or advanced analytics.
  • Relevant certification or additional education in cloud computing, data engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or data science
  • Advanced knowledge of data engineering principles and practices, including data ingestion, transformation, integration, orchestration, processing, and delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud-based data technologies and architecture, particularly Microsoft Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Azure Functions, and related data services.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling, schema design, and data modelling techniques.
  • Proficiency in SQL, including the ability to develop and optimize complex queries, stored procedures, and data transformations.
  • Proficiency in a programming or scripting language used for data engineering, such as Python or C#.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT design patterns and techniques for integrating structured and semi-structured data from multiple source systems.
  • Knowledge of data quality, validation, reconciliation, metadata, and data lineage concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of data security, privacy, governance, and access-control principles applicable to enterprise data environments.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, including source control, testing, code review, deployment, and CI/CD.
