Job description

We are Systematix and we are currently looking for a Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric for our client.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Our client is building out an enterprise analytics platform on Microsoft Fabric, supporting customer-facing web applications, AI assistants, and business reporting directly from its data lake.

This is a hands-on build-and-operate role within the IT Solutions Architecture / Data & Analytics team. The Data Engineer will work closely with the senior Data Engineer and Solutions Architecture team, taking ownership of the pipelines, lakehouses, warehouses, and semantic layers that move data from ERP, CRM, e-commerce, and other operational systems into Microsoft Fabric.

The successful candidate will work directly within the platform, creating pipelines, modeling data, troubleshooting failed runs, tuning performance, and partnering with analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to transform raw operational data into trusted, secure, and query-ready assets.

ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this role, you will design, build, maintain, and optimize the Microsoft Fabric data platform and the data products that support analytics, reporting, web applications, and AI initiatives. You will work closely with Data Engineering, Solutions Architecture, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable and reliable enterprise data solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, build, and maintain lakehouses, warehouses, and Materialized Lake Views (MLVs) across multiple Microsoft Fabric workspaces.
  • Ingest data from on-premises and cloud sources using gateway connections, mirrored databases, copy jobs, shortcuts, and Data Factory pipelines.
  • Ensure source tables have appropriate primary keys and are replication-ready.
  • Develop and orchestrate data pipelines and Dataflows Gen2 for batch and near-real-time ingestion and transformation.
  • Implement and maintain a medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) for enterprise data.
  • Work with Delta tables and change-data feed / CDC-style replication to maintain current lake data while effectively managing data volume, history windows, and incremental loads.
  • Build and maintain semantic models and curated views supporting Power BI reporting, Cortex/AI search, Fabric IQ / ontology, Snowflake integrations, and downstream AI assistants.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipeline failures, long-running Power BI refreshes, and capacity or performance issues across Microsoft Fabric.
  • Apply and maintain data governance and security standards, including workspace access, version control, deployment pipelines, row-level security, column-level security, and masking.
  • Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into well-modeled, documented, and reusable data products.
REQUIREMENTS:

Must-have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3–7+ years of experience in data engineering or a closely related data role.
  • Strong hands-on SQL / T-SQL skills, including query authoring, views, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including lakehouse and warehouse implementations, pipelines, and notebooks, or strong equivalent experience with Azure Synapse/Databricks and Power BI.
  • Strong data modeling fundamentals, including star schemas, keys, incremental loading, and CDC patterns.
  • Experience with data integration and orchestration across heterogeneous on-premises and cloud data sources.
  • Working knowledge of Delta Lake and OneLake concepts.
  • Experience with Git-based version control and deployment pipelines.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, including the ability to diagnose pipeline, refresh, and platform-performance issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and business audiences.

Nice-to-have:

  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700).
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600).
  • Power BI report and dashboard development experience.
  • Experience with DAX and semantic-model design for self-service analytics.
  • Strong data visualization and storytelling capabilities.
  • Experience gathering and clarifying reporting requirements with business stakeholders.
  • Exposure to Python and analytical tooling beyond SQL.
  • PySpark / Spark notebook experience for large-scale transformations.
  • Exposure to Snowflake and/or Databricks.
  • Familiarity with Copilot Studio, Fabric APIs, Fabric IQ / ontology, Cortex Search, and AI/agent integrations.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Purview, data governance frameworks, and security models such as RLS, CLS, and masking.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or Claude Code for pipeline development, SQL authoring, and troubleshooting.
