Job summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking an Intermediate Data Engineer to support the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) modernization. The successful candidate will design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale Azure data platforms, build analytics-ready datasets, and create secure, scalable data pipelines supporting regulatory reporting, compliance monitoring, and business intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing analytics-ready data platforms and pipelines.
  • 1+ year using AI-assisted code generation, automation, or data analysis.
  • 3+ years designing analytics-ready data platforms (Power BI, Synapse, semantic models, data marts).
  • 2+ years Databricks data governance, metadata management, and security.
  • 4+ years GitHub/Git.
  • 3+ years Azure services (Storage, SQL, Synapse, Networking, Managed Identity, Service Principals).
  • 5+ years Python (PySpark) and SQL for enterprise ETL/ELT.

Responsibilities

  • Design scalable Azure data architecture for cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using: Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Develop data workflows using Python (PySpark) and SQL.
  • Integrate data from ServiceNow, APIs, and geospatial systems.
  • Develop semantic models, data marts, and analytics-ready datasets.
  • Implement data governance, metadata management, lineage, and security.
  • Optimize enterprise data pipelines and monitor performance.
  • Utilize AI-assisted development tools for code generation, automation, testing, and documentation.
  • Support regulatory analytics and future AI initiatives.

Location: Edmonton, Alberta (Primarily Remote; must attend onsite meetings in Edmonton 3–4 times/month as required)
