Job summary

Amazon Inc. in Toronto is seeking a data engineering intern to design, build, and automate data pipelines and data warehouses. You will work on log-event processing, data schema design, and dashboards used by engineers and data scientists.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in CS/related field, experience with SQL and scripting (Python, KornShell), and Monday–Friday, up to 40 hours weekly. Office-based in Toronto with potential November/December 2026 start.

• Experience with data mining and data transformation.
• Experience with database, data warehouse or data lake solutions.
• Experience building data pipelines or automated ETL processes.
• Experience with SQL.
• Experience with one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, KornShell).
• Work Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and automate deployment of distributed system for collecting and processing log events from multiple sources.
• Design data schema and operate internal data warehouses and SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Own the design, development, and maintenance of metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards used to drive key business decisions.
• Monitor and troubleshoot operational or data issues in the data pipelines.
• Drive architectural plans and implementation for future data storage, reporting, and analytic solutions.
• Develop code-based automated data pipelines able to process millions of data points.
• Improve database and data warehouse performance by tuning queries.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Data Scientists, and other partners to identify opportunities and solutions.
• Provide assistance with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis when issues arise.

This is a full-time position, meaning candidates should expect to work in office, Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours per week typically between 8am-5pm. Specific team norms around working hours will be communicated by your manager.

Key job responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with Business Analysts, Data Scientists, and other internal partners to identify opportunities/problems.
• Provide assistance with troubleshooting, researching the root cause, and thoroughly resolving defects in the event of a problem.

Basic Qualifications

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
• Are 18 years of age or older
• Experience with data mining and data transformation
• Experience with database, data warehouse or data lake solutions
• Experience building data pipelines or automated ETL processes
• Experience with SQL
• Experience with one or more scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell)
• Work Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS
• Experience from previous technical internship(s) or demonstrated project experience
• Knowledge of basics of designing and implementing a data schema like normalization, relational model vs dimensional model
• Experience with big data processing technology (e.g., Hadoop or ApacheSpark), data warehouse technical architecture, infrastructure components, ETL, and reporting/analytic tools and environments
• Can articulate the basic differences between datatypes (e.g. JSON/NoSQL, relational)
