Job summary

Johnson Service Group (JSG) in Toronto is looking for a senior Data Engineer who can take ownership of end-to-end data solutioning. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and analytics using Python, SQL, Scala, Spark, and Databricks, with Azure cloud services.

Job description

Data Engineer Johnson Service Group (JSG) is currently looking for a Data Engineer with strong Scala, Apache Spark, PySpark, Python, Java, Azure cloud services, and data workflow orchestration experience. Hybrid 3 days per week- Toronto. We are seeking a senior technical professional who can take ownership of end-to-end data solutioning and development. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives on solving business problems using technology and can independently propose, design, and implement scalable solutions. The role involves understanding problem statements from business teams, translating them into technical deliverables, and driving execution using modern data engineering tools and platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Engage with stakeholders to understand business and operational challenges. Analyze problem statements and independently propose tech-driven solutions. Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and dashboards. Implement ETL workflows, data models, and integrations using Python, SQL, and Databricks. Develop analytical reports and visualizations using Tableau or Power BI. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless solution delivery. Ensure code quality, reusability, and adherence to best practices.

Required Technical Skills

Strong programming skills in Python. Advanced proficiency in SQL for data querying, optimization, and transformation. Hands-on experience with Databricks or similar data engineering platforms. Proficiency with Tableau or Power BI for data visualization and reporting. Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory, etc.). Solid understanding of data modeling, data governance, and performance tuning.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in building end-to-end data solutions independently. Exposure to cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to translate business problems into actionable technical tasks. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Is a self-starter capable of leading solution design and development with minimal guidance. Enjoys hands-on technical problem-solving. Can handle multiple projects and adapt to evolving business priorities. May not have prior exposure to the controls domain but is highly skilled in technology and solutioning.
