Job summary

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) seeks a Data Developer II to join the Data Platform team in BC/Calgary. You will design and deploy Azure-based data pipelines, ensure data quality, and drive cloud-enabled data initiatives for sustainable operations.

Ideal candidates have Azure experience, strong programming skills, and a collaborative, cross-functional mindset. The role offers a compressed work week with Fridays off in a dynamic mining environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or related field with data focus.
• Hands-on experience with Azure or another cloud platform and ETL methods.
• Experience with C#/.NET/Python/SQL programming.
• Experience with Azure services such as Databricks, Eventhubs, Functions, Service Bus.
• Knowledge of data stores and governance including data retention/archiving.

Responsibilities

• Be a safety leader and adhere to environmental rules.
• Deliver high quality data software solutions aligned with architecture standards.
• Design, build and deploy data pipelines/products on Azure for operational data.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
• Solve complex problems with legacy systems to enable cloud migration.
• Perform data validation to ensure data delivery, security and quality.
• Develop monitoring and metrics for data pipelines to meet KPIs.
• Maintain documentation for applications and systems.
• Identify cost optimization opportunities in data platforms.
• Support incident response and forensics for pipelines on Azure Cloud.

About the role:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Data Platform, the Data Developer II is responsible for applying data engineering skills and business knowledge to acquire, organize, model, expose and visualize data to enable and sustain data-driven business decisions and optimizations. The Data Developer II will work as part of a high-performing team with leading technologies and tooling.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with coding experience and an interest in software development, data engineering, data development, cloud computing, and mining technologies, as well as excellent organizational, prioritization and multitasking skills. In this role you will:

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Deliver high quality data software solutions aligned with the architectural standards
• Design, build and deploy Data Pipelines/Products on Azure for Operational Data
• Implement CI/CD pipelines frameworks in Azure DevOps
• Solve complex technical problems with legacy systems to overcome roadblocks preventing data migration to the cloud platform
• Perform pipeline data validation and ensure that data delivery, data security and data quality are not compromised
• Provide and develop monitoring and performance metrics for data-pipelines to measure and ensure performance KPIs are met
• Maintain application and system documentation
• Identify and implement cost optimization strategies
• Facilitate and support incident response and forensics for pipelines on Azure Cloud

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline, with experience in the data field
• Hands-on experience with Azure or other Cloud Platform, relational databases and ETL methodology, strong scripting skills.
• Experience working with programming technologies and languages especially C#/.net/Python/SQL
• Experience with Azure services including Databricks, Eventhubs, Functions, Service Bus
• Familiar with Azure Active Directory, Log Analytics, Azure Container Services, Azure Key Vault, and Azure Data Lake Storage
• Relational and non-relational data stores design and deployment, including data retention and archiving strategy
• Knowledge of SAP would be advantageous
• Knowledge of general computer controls related to operations, information security and change management of systems software, application source code, network, and system database technologies
• Strong cross-functional team participant and collaborative approach to problem solving

Salary: $85,000 - $100,000 CAD/year

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
