Job Summary :
The Data Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a scalable, secure, and integrated data architecture on Microsoft Azure for a government entity. This includes developing data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing technical leadership to data engineers and analysts. The role requires a strong understanding of Azure services, data governance, and the ability to align data architecture with business requirements.
Location : Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Responsibilities :
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance data architecture on Microsoft Azure.
- Lead the development of data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Architect and manage data lakes and structured storage solutions using Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
- Integrate data from diverse source systems using APIs, connectors, and custom scripts.
- Develop and maintain robust data models and semantic layers.
- Build and optimize data workflows using Python and SQL within Azure Databricks.
- Design and expose secure data services and APIs using Azure API Management.
- Implement data governance practices, including metadata management, data classification, and lineage tracking.
- Ensure compliance with privacy and regulatory standards through role-based access controls, encryption, and data masking.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data architecture with business requirements.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and integrations.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineers and analysts.

Required Skills & Certifications :
- College or Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related field of study.
- 8 years of experience as a Data Architect in a large enterprise.
- 6 years of hands-on experience in Python and SQL for Data Engineering.
- 5 years of experience with Azure Infrastructure, Services, and Authentication.
- 4 years of experience designing analytics-ready data platforms.
- 4 years of experience using version control systems.
- 3 years of hands-on experience with Azure Databricks and Delta Lake.
- 3 years of experience managing Databricks workspaces.
