Job summary

Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited in Toronto, Ontario, is seeking a Data Analyst for a 12-month contract to support store operations and merchandising through hands-on data work, SQL querying, and dashboard development with Power BI.

You'll build datasets, validate data quality, and partner with stakeholders to translate business questions into analytics, while leveraging Excel and Python for automation and working with cloud platforms.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of analytics experience or relevant co-op/internship.
  • Strong SQL skills (joins, aggregations, data transformation).
  • Advanced Excel and data visualization with Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Extract and manipulate large datasets (sales, inventory, product, store performance) using SQL.
  • Build and maintain datasets and data models to support reporting.
  • Develop dashboards and reports (Power BI) to track store and merchandising performance.
  • Support ad hoc analysis on assortment, pricing, promotions, and inventory movement.
  • Identify trends, gaps, and opportunities in store execution and product performance.
  • Troubleshoot data issues and support data quality improvements.

What You’ll Do:We’re looking for a Data Analyst (12-month contract) to support store operations and merchandising teams. This role is hands-on and technical, focused on building datasets, analyzing performance, and enabling better day-to-day decisions in stores.Key ResponsibilitiesExtract and manipulate large datasets (sales, inventory, product, store performance) using SQLClean and validate data to ensure accuracy and consistency across reportingBuild and maintain datasets and data models to support reporting and analyticsDevelop dashboards and reports (Power BI) to track store and merchandising performanceSupport ad hoc analysis on assortment, pricing, promotions, and inventory movementIdentify trends, gaps, and opportunities in store execution and product performanceWork with stakeholders to translate business questions into data requirements and outputsTroubleshoot data issues and support ongoing improvements in data quality and reporting processesContract Scope / ExpectationsDeliver clearly defined outputs (datasets, dashboards, analysis) within timelinesRamp quickly on existing data models, tools, and business contextOperate independently on technical tasks with guidance from senior team membersSupport short-term priorities such as reporting builds, data validation, and deep-dive analysisWhat You Bring:Degree or certification in Data Analytics, Business, Computer Science, or related field1–2 years of analytics experience or relevant co-op/internshipStrong SQL skills (joins, aggregations, data transformation)Advanced Excel (data manipulation, pivot tables)Experience with Power BI or similar BI tools for dashboardingAbility to work with large, complex datasets and ensure data qualityStrong attention to detail and problem-solving mindsetClear communication — able to explain outputs in simple business termsPython for data processing or automation is an assetExperience with cloud platforms (Azure, Databricks, Snowflake) is an assetExposure to retail, merchandising, or operations analytics is an assetUnderstanding of basic data modelling concepts is an assetLocation : Toronto, Ontario (Hybrid: In-office 4 days a week)We’re always looking for great talent!
