Position Description

At CGI, we are seeking an experienced and driven Data Analyst with strong data engineering and data platform capabilities. In this hybrid role, you will bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions, focusing on data-centric initiatives in the financial services domain. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in SQL, ETL processes, and modern Azure‑based data platforms (including Databricks and Medallion architecture), along with strong skills in business requirement gathering, stakeholder engagement, and supporting the full project lifecycle. This is a permanent, full‑time role based in Atlantic Canada on a hybrid basis (2–3 days in office).

Your Future Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with system owners, business users, and data engineering teams to define and document data requirements, operational goals, and analytics needs.
  • Lead requirements‑gathering sessions for data‑centric projects to improve business processes and information flow.
  • Analyze existing systems and data processes to identify areas for enhancement and optimization.
  • Translate business needs into functional and technical requirements for developers, data engineers, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Support data modeling, data quality, and data governance efforts by providing clear and structured documentation.
  • Create process models, data flow diagrams, use cases, and user stories to communicate solutions.
  • Validate business requirements, support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and coordinate with QA teams to ensure solution quality.
  • Participate in the design and delivery of ETL workflows, data mappings, and integration logic.
  • Work with Azure Databricks to design and optimize data pipelines following Medallion architecture principles (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers).
  • Ensure alignment of system solutions with enterprise data architecture and compliance standards.
  • Work across both in‑person and virtual teams in a hybrid work environment.
Required Qualifications to Be Successful in This Role
  • Bachelor's or College degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst or Data Analyst, with a strong focus on data platforms and analytics.
  • Solid experience in SQL programming and working with relational databases.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of ETL processes and tools.
  • Experience working on data warehousing or enterprise data projects from concept to deployment.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data governance, and data quality frameworks.
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and communicate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Practical experience with Azure data services, including Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
  • Understanding of Medallion data architecture and best practices for building scalable, layered data models.
  • Proficiency in BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or QlikView is a plus.
Nice to Have
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, and Project Management tools.
  • Background in Banking, Financial Services, or Insurance industries.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum environments and tools like JIRA or Confluence.
