Job summary

Torys LLP in Toronto is seeking a Data Analyst, Reporting to deliver accurate financial and business reporting and provide insights for clients and internal stakeholders. You will translate stakeholder needs into clear reports, dashboards and recurring deliverables, using Excel, Power BI and SQL, with emphasis on data accuracy and reconciliation.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of related experience, preferably within a professional services firm.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Power Query; experience with Power BI Desktop, MDX/DAX is a plus.
  • Experience extracting data from a complex accounting system (3E preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain complex financial and non-financial reports and dashboards.
  • Prepare data from various sources for reporting in Excel, Power BI and BI tools.
  • Interpret financial information to identify trends and risks for stakeholders.
  • Translate stakeholder objectives into clear reporting deliverables.
  • Validate and reconcile reports and underlying data.
  • Prepare client reporting packages and quarterly/annual presentations.
  • Advise lawyers and Business Services on reporting requirements.
  • Provide coverage during absences and peak periods.
  • Maintain documentation for data sources and reporting processes.
  • Review reports prepared by other analysts for accuracy.

Job description

Position Overview

The Data Analyst, Reporting is responsible for delivering accurate financial and business reporting and providing insights that support the needs of clients and internal stakeholders. This role translates stakeholder needs into clear reports, dashboards and recurring deliverables.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain complex financial and non-financial reports and dashboards for client, management and business needs.
  • Support improvements to the firm’s reporting capability by assessing and applying appropriate tools and approaches.
  • Prepare data from various sources for reporting and analysis in Excel, Power BI and other business intelligence tools.
  • Interpret financial and business information to identify trends, risks and relevant insights for stakeholders.
  • Translate stakeholder objectives, measures and requirements into clear and accurate reporting deliverables.
  • Validate and reconcile reports, dashboards and underlying data, resolving discrepancies before distribution.
  • Prepare client reporting packages, including quarterly and annual presentations, financial templates and ad hoc information.
  • Develop matter management reports for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Advise lawyers and Business Services professionals on reporting requirements, deliverables and interpretation.
  • Provide reporting and analytical coverage during absences, peak periods and changing business needs.
  • Maintain documentation for data sources, reporting requirements, calculations and processes.
  • Review reports, dashboards and supporting analysis prepared by other Analysts for accuracy, completeness and appropriate interpretation.
  • Provide financial data, reporting and analytical support for projects and firm initiatives.
Attributes & Experience

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent experience, is essential.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience, preferably within a professional services firm.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with expert knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables, is required.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Power Query in Excel is required. Experience with Power BI Desktop, MDX, and/or DAX would be an asset.
  • Experience in extracting data from a complex accounting system is required. Experience with 3E would be an asset.

This position is part of our hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week. As part of our onboarding, new hires are required to be in the office more often for the first few months of employment to ensure they receive the requisite cross training.
