Job summary

Nova Scotia Power is seeking a Data Analyst Co-op (Graduate Level) in Halifax, NS for the Winter 2027 term. You will work with the Data Insights & Analytics team to develop and optimize reporting, dashboards, and data processes that support operational decision-making.

This temporary, full-time position offers hands-on experience with BI tools, automation, and data management while collaborating with stakeholders and delivering clear, user-friendly insights.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Master's or graduate-level degree in relevant field (as stated).
• Wrote SQL queries and built dashboards in Tableau.
• Strong design skills for report layouts and visuals.
• Exposure to data reconciliation and validation across sources.
• Experience with Python or R or other scripting languages for automation.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables and Power Query.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, maintain, and QA operational and management reports using Tableau and other tools.
• Support reporting needs by delivering accurate, reliable and user-friendly solutions.
• Assist with report reconciliation and validate data across sources.
• Analyze current reporting processes and identify efficiency improvements.
• Assist in SQL optimization by reviewing requirements and reducing duplicate requests.
• Consolidate common data requirements across reports to reduce load.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into analytics solutions.

We are looking for aData Analyst Co-op (Graduate Level) to join our Data Insights & Analytics team for theWinter 2027 term.

During your work term, you will gain valuable experience working with business intelligence tools, automation, reporting, and data management processes that support operational decision‑making across the organization. You'll collaborate with technical and business stakeholders while helping deliver accurate, insightful, and user‑friendly reporting solutions.

Key elements of this role include:

• Develop, test, maintain, and perform quality assurance on operational and management reports using Tableau and other reporting tools.
• Support the reporting needs of the Data Insights & Analytics team by delivering accurate, reliable, and user‑friendly reporting solutions.
• Assist with report reconciliation activities by validating data accuracy across multiple sources and investigating discrepancies.
• Analyze existing reporting processes and identify opportunities to improve performance, efficiency, and data accessibility.
• Support SQL query optimization initiatives by reviewing reporting requirements, reducing duplicate database requests, and improving data retrieval processes.
• Assist in consolidating common data requirements across reports to reduce system load and improve reporting efficiency.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into actionable reporting and analytics solutions.

We're looking for a motivated and analytical student who is passionate about data, reporting, and continuous improvement. You will be a strong candidate if you:

• Are currently pursuing a Master's or other graduate‑level degree program in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
• Have experience writing SQL queries and Tableau, including building, designing, and maintaining dashboards and reports.
• Demonstrate strong report design skills, with attention to layout, formatting, color, and data visualization best practices.
• Have exposure to data reconciliation and validation, ensuring consistency and accuracy across multiple data sources.
• Experience with Python, R, or other scripting languages for automation and data analysis.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, and data analysis techniques.
