Job summary

Kinark Child & Family Services in Peterborough, ON is seeking a part-time Residential CYW to deliver direct mental health services to children and youth in a collaborative team. You will help create a safe, therapeutic environment and support individual goals within a CUPE-supported framework.

The role emphasizes building therapeutic relationships with clients and families, requires a CYW diploma with relevant experience, and values bilingual English/French abilities.

Qualifications

  • CYW diploma with at least 1 year related experience
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and administrative skills
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR Level C certificate
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and clean compliance checks
  • Bilingual in English and French valued

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to clients with mental health needs.
  • Create and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment to support client goals.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with clients, families and guardians.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and adhere to CUPE terms.

Job Description

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Live-in Treatment Supervisor, the Residential Child and Youth Worker (CYW) works as part of an interdisciplinary team delivering direct services to clients with mental health needs. The Residential CYW is responsible for providing a safe and therapeutic environment in which individual client goals are actualized. All Kinark employees share the responsibility of workplace health and safety and the prevention of workplace hazards. Every employee must protect their own health and safety by working in compliance with the law and with safe work practices and procedures.

In addition, it is important that the Residential CYW develops and maintains therapeutic relationships with clients, families and guardians and is adept at modeling positive social and problem solving skills, and skilled at behaviour management. This position is covered by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 2860. The position will be scheduled to meet program needs as per the Collective Agreement.

Qualifications:
  • Child and Youth Worker diploma plus at least one year related experience
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonaland administrative skills
  • Current valid Standard First Aid/CPR Level C certificate
  • Training in Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour
  • Understanding group dynamics and strong skills in group and individual counseling
  • Candidates must also possess good report writing skills
  • Must have a validOntario driver’s license
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical
  • Candidates Bilingual in English and French will be given special consideration
