Job summary

Xanadu is seeking a Cryostat Technician to support next-generation cryostats and low-temperature device development. You will ensure cryogenic platforms are robust, scalable, and mission-ready, collaborating with hardware operations and packaging teams to support high-volume device analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field with 2–3 years cryogenics experience.
• Experience assembling, testing, or assisting with cryostat operations.
• CAD and 3D printing experience (SolidWorks).
• Hands-on operation of cryostats, including cooldowns and maintenance.
• Knowledge of high vacuum systems for cryogenic use.
• Liquid cryogen handling and distribution experience.
• Self-motivated and able to collaborate across disciplines in a fast-paced environment.
• Detail-oriented with a positive attitude and strong communication skills.

• Support the assembly, setup, and testing of new cryostats for photon detector systems.
• Operate and assist in testing cryogenic systems (e.g., He-4 evaporator-based) and perform routine maintenance.
• Collaborate with scientific and engineering teams for detector characterization and testing.
• Maintain and operate large-scale cryogenic facilities to ensure safe gas/liquid handling.
• Provide operational support for existing cryostat platforms.

Your Role And Responsibilities

Xanadu is seeking a Cryostat Technician to support our next-generation cryostats and ongoing low-temperature device development. In this role, you will ensure our cryogenic platforms are robust, scalable, and mission-ready. You will collaborate closely with the low-temperature devices, hardware operations, and packaging teams to support a high volume of device analysis while providing operational support for our existing platforms.

With your technical expertise and hands-on experience with cryostats and related low-temperature technologies, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations and performance testing of our detector systems necessary for our quantum architecture. This role requires a practical approach to low-temperature engineering and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

You will assist in the assembly, testing, maintenance, and routine operation of large-scale cryostat systems. Responsibilities include:

• Support the assembly, setup, and testing of new cryostats for photon detector systems
• Operate and assist in testing cryogenic systems (e.g., He-4 evaporator-based), performing routine maintenance, performance logging, and troubleshooting
• Work with cryogenic liquid and gas systems to achieve optimized cooling requirements
• Assist in the maintenance and operation of large-scale cryogenic facilities to ensure safe and efficient gas/liquid recovery
• Collaborate closely with scientific and engineering teams to support ongoing detector characterization and testing

Required Qualifications And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Technical/Engineering Technology diploma, or a closely related field with 2–3 years of hands-on cryogenics experience.
• Practical experience assembling, testing, or assisting with cryostat operations
• CAD and experience for mechanical part design or 3D printing (e.g. Solidworks)
• Hands-on experience operating cryostats, including cooldowns, troubleshooting, and maintenance
• Knowledge and experience with high vacuum systems for cryogenic use
• Liquid cryogen handling and distribution experience
• Self-motivated, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with people of all disciplines on complex projects in a fast-paced environment
• Detail-oriented with positive attitude towards work
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Knowledge And Experience

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in a cryogenic laboratory or industrial environment
• Hands-on experience with silicon chip handling and mounting
• Experience with fiber handling and routing
• Experience writing Python code

This is for a new position. Your base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and internal benchmarks. The base salary range is 90,000 - 120,000 CAD. You will also be eligible for equity and benefits.
