Job summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer for the Air & Naval division in Dartmouth, NS. The role focuses on developing security strategies, designing secure systems, and implementing cybersecurity controls across complex platforms.

The position involves hands-on security assessments, threat modeling, and validation activities to ensure resilience against real-world threats, with compliance to NIST RMF, ITSG-33, DISA STIGs, and related standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent; 5+ years in Cyber security
  • Experience in secure systems development, preferably in military environments
  • Strong knowledge of Linux security and container security (Docker/Podman)
  • Familiarity with ITSG-33, NIST 800-171/172, or NIST RMF
  • Experience in security testing, vulnerability management, and SBOMs

Responsibilities

  • Support stakeholder engagement by identifying regulatory requirements and SA&A processes
  • Evaluate and establish system security architecture and cybersecurity controls
  • Conduct threat modeling and vulnerability assessments to enhance resilience
  • Perform technical security assessments of OS, containers, and applications
  • Ensure adherence to military and industry standards (NIST RMF, ITSG-33, DISA STIGs, FIPS)
  • Develop and execute Security Test Procedures verifying System Security Requirements
  • Support audits by documenting security artifacts (SSP, risk assessments)
  • Mentor junior team members

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada has an opportunity for a new Cybersecurity Engineer to join our Air & Naval division. Our team is growing and looking for additional team members to help solve complex Cybersecurity requirements. In this role you will develop security strategies, design secure systems, and implement cybersecurity solutions to ensure that our systems and products are designed and developed based on sound security principles.

This position includes hands‑on security assessment and technical validation activities to ensure system resilience against real‑world threats.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supportstakeholder engagement by identifying regulatory requirements,the Security Assessment and Accreditation (SA&A)process to be applied, and obtains concurrence from SA&Aauthorities on the identified information protection needs
  • Evaluate, select, and establish the system security architecture and develop cybersecurity controls
  • Conduct threat modeling and vulnerability assessments to refine system defenses and enhance resilience
  • Perform technical security assessments of operating systems, containerized environments (Docker/Podman), and applications to evaluate real-world exploitability
  • Ensure cybersecurity frameworks adhere to military and industry standards such as NIST RMF, ITSG-33, DISA STIGs, and FIPS
  • Conduct Threat Risk Analysis, impact analysis, and vulnerability testing, including proof‑of‑concept validation where appropriate
  • Develop, author, and execute Security Test Procedures that verify and validate System Security Requirements and demonstrate assurance through evidence-based testing
  • Support internal and external audits by authoring and maintaining reproducible security artifacts and SA&A documentation (e.g., System Security Plans, Risk Assessments, Security Artifacts in System Design Document, Security Test Reports)
  • Mentor less senior team members
    • The successful candidate for this position will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent with aminimum of5+years ofrelated experience in Cyber
    • Experience supporting the engineering development of secure systems, ideally inmilitary environments
    • Strong understanding of Linux security, container security (Docker/Podman), vulnerability scanning, and vulnerability assessment tools
    • Familiarity with DISA STIGs, and frameworks like ITSG‑33, NIST 800‑171/172, or NIST RMF
    • Experience conducting technical security testing, including system, network, or application assessments
    • Experience supporting vulnerability management workflows, including CVE/CWE tracking and remediation
    • Familiarity generating and maintaining SBOMs (SPDX or CycloneDX format) with CVE mapping
    • Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred
    • Effective communicator, strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and ability tomotivate others through collaborative leadership
    • Excellent time management skills, whether working as a self‑motivated individual or part of a team

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
