Job summary

Jobtailor in Edmonton, Canada is seeking a skilled Welding Inspector to lead QA/QC inspections for piping fabrication, installation, and repair during shutdowns. You will verify CSA W47.1/W59, ASME codes, project specs, and WPS/WPQ, and ensure material traceability and weld map accuracy.

The ideal candidate holds a CWB Level 2 certification and has field experience in operating plants, with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced shutdown environment,

Qualifications

  • Must hold valid CWB Level 2 Welding Inspector certification.
  • Shutdown/turnaround piping inspection experience preferred.
  • Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping systems.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, weld maps, and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong QA/QC knowledge, ITPs, and weld traceability.
  • Willingness to work night shifts 6 days on/1 day off.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control inspections for piping fabrication, installation, and repair during shutdown/turnaround operations
  • Inspect welding operations according to CSA W47.1, CSA W59, ASME Codes, project specs, and approved WPS/WPQ
  • Verify material traceability, heat numbers, MTRs, and piping-spec compliance
  • Review piping isometrics, P&IDs, weld maps, and fabrication drawings
  • Conduct fit-up inspections, dimensional checks, weld visual inspections, and final acceptance inspections
  • Monitor cutting, beveling, fit-up, welding, repair welding, PWHT coordination, and surface preparation
  • Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures, ITPs, and project hold/witness points
  • Identify non-conformances, issue NCRs, and track corrective and preventive actions
  • Maintain inspection records, daily reports, weld logs, and QC turnover documentation
  • Coordinate with welders, supervisors, engineers, NDT technicians, and client representatives
  • Verify NDT requirements, review NDT reports, and confirm acceptance criteria
  • Support fast-paced shutdown schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards
  • Promote and enforce site safety policies and safe work practices

Job description

  • Perform quality control inspections for piping fabrication, installation, and repair during shutdown/turnaround operations

Requirements
  • CWB Level 2 Welding Inspector Certification – mandatory
  • Shutdown/turnaround piping inspection experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping systems
  • Experience performing field piping inspections in operating plant environments
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC systems, ITPs, turnover documentation, and weld traceability
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, weld maps, and fabrication drawings
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31 piping codes and industrial construction standards
  • Strong communication, reporting, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced shutdown environment
