Job description

The Customs & Logistics Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all import and export activities comply with applicable customs regulations, trade laws, and internal company policies. This role manages and audits customs documentation, coordinates with customs/freight brokers, government agencies, and internal parties to ensure seamless import/export operations.

The Logistics & Customs Specialist also identifies process improvements to reduce delays, costs, and risks related to international and domestic shipments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and audit import and export documentation to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential areas of vulnerability and implement corrective action plans as required
  • Provide advice to internal parties on customs/regulatory requirements, HTS classifications, and trade programs
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless import/export operations
  • Monitor and stay abreast changes in customs laws and international trade policies
  • Classify imported and exported materials under the appropriate HTS codes and verify country of origin
  • Maintain HTS code database for both imported and exported materials
  • Expedite/manage custom releases to ensure on time delivery
  • Collect, organize, and manage USMCA and other applicable free trade certificates from raw material suppliers to minimize duty impact and ensure compliance
  • Conduct regular analysis and maintain reporting on duties paid
  • Manage duty recovery and duty drawbacks with customs agencies/broker as necessary
  • Manage all customs and broker inquiries, working with customs brokers, internal team members, and regulatory bodies
  • Conduct analysis, prepare documentation, and manage communications for regulatory inquiries
  • Assist with developing and maintaining standard operating procedures as it relates to trade compliance
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, supply chain, business administration, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of harmonized system (HS) codes, incoterms, and international trade agreements
  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards Oracle or equivalent ERP system
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure in a high paced environment
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem solving
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written in English
