Job description

Consider joining us as a Custom Technician if :

You have experience troubleshooting and solving mechanical and production challenges. You may have worked as an apprentice, mechanic or in production manufacturing, can use a sewing machine to make custom covers, and cushions, build custom bolsters and laterals for clients wheel chairs, finish custom seating applications. You can work on modifications to mobility and accessibility products to assist clients gain the freedom of mobility and accessibility. Further examples are bumper pads, padded head and foot boards, custom seat belts and head rests to name a few.

You are curious, friendly, and empathetic, finding satisfaction in solving problems and helping others. You are comfortable using and working with manual, power tools and sewing machines.

The role :

We are adding a compassionate and knowledgeable Custom Technician to our team in Ontario. You will be trained on the tools you will be working with and the equipment you will be repairing. You will work directly with clients to understand the issues with their equipment and troubleshoot to solve the problem. You will travel to different sites, both private residences and community facilities to accommodate client needs. You will need to have a basic knowledge foundation of sewing machine use, and fabricating with Lexan and ABS products.

How you will spend your days :

  • Diagnose and repair. You will quickly learn how to repair wheelchairs and custom mobility equipment and how to navigate our software system. You will assess issues with manual and power devices, troubleshoot batteries and functionality, and repair equipment. You will fabricate custom accessories, components and finish off custom molds as prescribed.
  • Deliver an exceptional Motion customer experience. You will prioritize an empathic, respectful, and friendly customer experience. You will ensure that clients’ needs are met and that we meet our objective to make life accessible for everyone.
  • Be flexible and mobile. You will work 8-hour shifts and travel to clients' homes and community facilities. You are comfortable adapting your daily schedule to meet the changing needs of clients.
  • What you bring :

  • Technical skills. You have previous experience in customer service and assembling or repairing equipment. You have exposure to using diagnostic tools and power equipment. You genuinely enjoy learning new tools and approaches to solving tactical challenges. You will also have experience fabricating and producing items.
  • Empathy. You can navigate any situation in a friendly, professional, and compassionate manner. You can prioritize the comfort and urgency of clients. You can manage conflict, act with responsive patience to client demands, and understand the impact their mobility devices have on their lives.
  • Additional must-have requirements. You have a valid G-class driver's license and a clean driving record. You will be provided with a company vehicle and will travel regularly throughout the region. You have a clean criminal background check and are bondable. You can lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
