Job summary

A local government entity in Ontario is seeking a Full-time Custodian for their Facilities and Capital Infrastructure department. The role includes daily cleaning, safety inspections, and general maintenance of buildings managed by the Housing Programs Branch. Candidates should have a Grade 12 Diploma, experience in cleaning and maintenance, and the ability to work independently. This position offers a Monday to Friday schedule, 35 hours per week.

Job description

The County of Hastings is currently accepting applications for Full-time Custodian - Housing position at the Hastings County Administration building with our Facilities and Capital infrastructure department. This position is responsible to perform general cleaning, safety inspections, grounds work and general maintenance to buildings and equipment managed by the Housing Programs Branch.

DUTIES:

  • Daily cleaning of the building including garbage removal, cleaning of common areas, windows, walls and floors and exterior of the building.
  • Respond to emergency issues, provide assistance to the Property Supervisors and emergency response personnel.
  • Perform many types of minor repairs required to the building, including carpentry, plastering, painting, plumbing and minor electrical repairs.
  • Carry out the grounds maintenance of public area including: snow clearing and de-icing and grass cutting.
  • Generate work orders and reports for repairing units, annual preventative maintenance inspections, emergency, health and safety and general building repairs.
  • Maintain preventative, routine and emergency records for all the building systems.
  • Assist the Maintenance Department in monitoring work done by contractors.
  • Stock and inventory control.
  • Other duties as may be required from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
  • One to two years’ experience in general cleaning practices, property maintenance, including basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Able to safely and competently use hand and power tools.
  • Excellent knowledge of cleaning products and chemicals and how to use these products and chemicals.
  • Knowledge of apartment building fire alarm systems.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, organized, reliable, pleasant and responsive to the needs of tenants and the general public.
  • Prior completion of asbestos abatement protocol is preferred.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 3:00pm, 35 hours/week
