Job summary

University of Ottawa is seeking a Research Assistant (CUPE) to support language rights research within the Common Law Section. The role involves rigorous legal research, bilingual writing in English and French, and producing analyses aligned with the constitutional framework for official languages in Canada.

Work is on Main Campus, with a 130-hour term across Sept to Dec 2026. Undergraduate or graduate students may apply; the position notes two pay rates depending on status, under the CUPE 2626

Qualifications

Hourly Rate: AE-RA-Tuteur / TA-RA-Tutor : $31.89 ou/or $50.25 (2024-2025)

The academic year starts on September 1 and ends on August 31.

Undergraduate students will be paid at the lower rate; while graduate students will be paid at the higher rate.

These rates do not included vacation pay nor statutory pay.

These rates will be applied until a new collective agreement is ratified. Retro will be paid after the ratification.

Language of Work: Anglais | English, Français | French

Requirements and Nature of Work: A research assistant position focusing on language rights in Canada and Ontario. In-depth knowledge of Canada's constitutional framework for official languages and relevant case law. Proficiency in legal research tools and the McGill Guide, and excellent legal writing skills in both French and English. This position also involve work during the winter term - you must also apply to the winter posting (no. JR38554).
