Job summary

Type One Energy in Vancouver, BC, seeks a Cryogenic Engineer to design, analyze, and validate cryogenic systems powering superconducting magnets in our stellarator program. You will perform thermodynamic and fluid analyses, develop PFDs/PDIs, and collaborate with magnet, vacuum, plasma physics, and power teams to ensure system performance.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's in mechanical/cryogenic/related field, strong analytical skills, and experience with CAE tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Cryogenic, Aerospace, Physics, or related field.
• Experience in analytical thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics calculations.
• Experience with analytical numerical analysis of thermal/fluid systems using tools such as CAE software.
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform thermodynamic, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer calculations on cryogenic systems.
• Conduct numerical analysis and modeling of cryogenic systems for transient and steady-state behavior.
• Support design and integration of cryogenic hardware components (piping, heat exchangers, insulation, valves).
• Develop system-level thermal/fluid models to inform design decisions.
• Collaborate with magnet engineering, vacuum systems, plasma physics, and power teams for compatibility.
• Analyze experimental data to validate models and identify improvements.
• Support cryogenic system testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and operations.
• Draft PFDs and component specifications; assist with PFDs to P&IDs and Hazan/HAZOPs.
• Mentor junior engineers in analysis processes.
