Job summary

A leading health and well-being provider in Halifax is seeking a Critical Incident Counsellor for contract work. This role involves providing on-site counselling and crisis management during traumatic events in various settings. Candidates must have a Master's Degree in a relevant field and significant clinical experience. Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of post-master’s clinical experience.
  • Able to practice without supervision.
  • Professional Liability Insurance coverage.
  • CISM training completion or equivalent is highly preferred.
  • Professional liability insurance coverage is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support during traumatic events.
  • Conduct crisis management and post-traumatic interventions.
  • Consult with the CI Supervisor and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain appropriate on-site presence, aligning with client culture.
  • Coordinate with CI Supervisor and stakeholders as needed.

Critical Incident Counsellor (Contract Position)

Make a meaningful difference when it matters most. As a key member of our Critical Incident Support team, you’ll provide expert, on‑site counselling and consultation in the wake of traumatic events—whether in workplaces, schools, or community settings.

The impact you'll make and what we'll accomplish together

As an independent contractor, your expertise will be critical in supporting local communities through both unexpected and planned challenges. You’ll provide immediate, on‑site support during traumatic events such as accidents, employee deaths, or organizational shifts like restructuring. Your role will help individuals and groups process traumatic experiences, restore stability, and build long‑term resilience.

Here’s How
  • Respond promptly to requests for on‑site critical incident intervention services.
  • Provide comprehensive crisis management and post‑traumatic interventions, including individual and group crisis interventions, debriefings, and corporate client consultations.
  • Perform a preliminary assessment of the workplace situation and offer coaching and support to managers.
  • Manage the first impression onsite while adapting to the workplace culture to ensure the support provided is clinically appropriate and representative of the client group.
  • Consult with the CI Supervisor and relevant stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education and Training:
  • Master’s Degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Active membership with a professional college or relevant governing board (ie RSW, LCT, etc)
  • Able to practice without supervision
  • Minimum five (5) years of post‑master’s clinical experience.
  • Completion of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) training or equivalent highly preferred
  • Professional Liability Insurance coverage
Experience and Skills:
  • Experience in conducting group debriefing and defusing support
  • Strong interpersonal awareness and exceptional first impression skills
  • In‑depth knowledge of different work environments and organizational structures with experience in workplace crisis management
  • Flexible schedule, with the ability to accept referrals with minimal notice
  • Profound understanding of trauma, its symptoms, and the ability to offer psycho‑education and address related questions
  • Proficiency in facilitating both group and one‑on‑one interactions
  • Experience in supporting first responders highly preferred
  • Must be flexible and accessible, with the ability to periodically respond to requests at any time during weekdays and weekends
