Job summary

BMO Financial Group in Canada is seeking a Credit Risk Analyst to support end-to-end underwriting and approval processes for new and existing credit facilities. You will assist Credit Analysts in CIO office and collaborate with Risk Officers, Relationship Managers, and Deal Specialists to prepare memoranda and ensure timely approvals.

You will manage data across credit systems, help with borrower onboarding, and ensure documentation accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in commercial banking, credit analysis, underwriting, loan administration, risk management, or financial services.
  • Exposure to commercial lending, corporate banking, private credit, or credit adjudication processes is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Credit Underwriting Support and Credit Memorandum Preparation.
  • Support the underwriting of new credit names to support the investments of fixed income products.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze company information, financial information, ratings reports, and other due diligence information required for credit assessments.
  • Conduct preliminary credit analysis, including review of financial statements, industry information, borrower credit metrics, and credit risk assessment.
  • Assist in identifying key risks, mitigants, for credit facilities.
  • Coordinate with business partners to ensure all required information is obtained in a timely manner.
  • Draft and prepare comprehensive credit memoranda and approval packages for submission to Credit Risk.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of credit documentation.
  • Incorporate feedback from relationship teams and credit adjudicators into final approval packages.
  • Manage required data entry and maintenance across credit and loan origination systems.
  • Facilitate borrower setup and credit facility configuration within internal platforms.
  • Ensure all system records align with credit approval documents and supporting analysis.
  • Ensure alignment of credit package with all internal credit policies, including risk rating methodology and internal limits.
  • Upload, maintain, and organize supporting documentation in document management systems.
  • Monitor workflow status and follow up on outstanding actions required for credit approval.
  • Monitor timeline of and prepare annual reviews of existing credit facilities.
  • Be the point of contact for operational and system issues relating to credit risk underwriting.
  • Coordinate the submission of credit requests to Credit Risk.
  • Track credit approval progress and manage communication between business teams and credit adjudicators.
  • Respond to information requests and approval conditions raised during the adjudication process.
  • Support adherence to credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong controls over data quality and document integrity.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in underwriting, onboarding, and approval workflows.
  • Assist with portfolio reporting, audits, and ongoing credit administration activities as required.

The Credit Risk Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the end-to-end credit underwriting and approval process for new and existing credit names. The successful candidate will support the Credit Analysts in the CIO office, as well as work closely with Credit Risk Officers, Relationship Managers, Deal Specialists, and other teams to facilitate borrower onboarding, prepare high-quality credit memoranda, manage credit-related systems and documentation, and ensure timely completion of approval requirements for credit facilities. Key Responsibilities
  • Credit Underwriting Support and Credit Memorandum Preparation
  • Support the underwriting of new credit names to support the investments of fixed income products, mainly public bonds.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze company information, financial information, ratings reports, and other due diligence information required for credit assessments.

Salary: $55,000.00 - $115,000.00 Pay Type: Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type. Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position. BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
