Job description

Start your CPA in a supportive team where you’ll learn the fundamentals first — then gradually progress into more complex tax engagements. The ACT Path offers exposure to assurance, compilations, and tax filings before guiding you into deeper technical tax work. It’s a great fit for students who want a well‑rounded start and a clear path toward tax expertise.

About Manning Elliott

At Manning Elliott, we believe in the power of people. We provide accounting, assurance, tax, and advisory services to a wide range of clients and are proud of our culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and community involvement.

If you’re looking for a place where you can grow your skills, receive meaningful mentorship, and build a strong foundation for a career that bridges accounting and tax, you’ll feel at home here.

The Role

As a CPA Articling Student on the Assurance, Compilation & Tax (ACT) Path, you’ll first build strong foundations in private company assurance and year‑end work. Over time, you’ll progress into our Tax group, where you’ll develop deeper technical skills through more complex tax engagements — all within a structured, supportive development path designed to help you become a well‑rounded future advisor.

Note: The ACT path focuses on assurance, compilation, and tax work rather than audit licensure, making it ideal for students who want breadth early and depth later.

Student opportunities for the Pre-Approved Assurance, Compilation, and Tax (ACT) Path are available starting January 2027.
What You'll Do
  • Work as a core team member on assurance, compilation, and tax engagements for private companies and NPO's.
  • Assist with year-end financial statements and related notes for a variety of private businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
  • Gain exposure to a variety of corporate, personal, and other tax filings, building practical experience that compliments your year-end work.
  • Communicate with clients to request information and clarify details as part of engagement workflows.
  • Participate in client calls or meetings, seeing how partners and managers guide clients and NPO leaders through their financial information..
  • Build a broad understanding of how the entire engagement fits together, from planning to file completion.
  • Collaborate closely with your team, ask questions often, and participate in debriefs and coaching conversations so you’re always learning.
  • Stay organized and manage your tasks so you can meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Participate in firm-wide initiatives, training, and our Team Development and Performance Management Program.
What You Bring
  • An undergraduate degree (completed or in progress) that meets the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) prerequisites.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and a willingness to ask questions when you’re unsure.
  • An interest in private businesses, entrepreneurship, and not-for-profit organizations — you’re curious about how businesses are built and run.
  • A detail-oriented, organized approach to your work— you take pride in doing quality work and understanding the "why".
  • Enjoyment of working with people, not just numbers — you value relationships as much as results.
  • Critical thinking skills — you like analyzing information, spotting patterns, and thinking through issues logically.
  • A team-first, positive attitude and a “let me try, and then I’ll ask for help” mindset.
Why You'll Love Working Here
  • CPA-Focused Support: From day one, you’ll have access to CPA and CFE mentorship, study support, and ongoing feedback to help you succeed in the program.
  • Real Client Connection: Work directly with the people who own and run private businesses and NPOs, and see how your work supports their goals and impact.
  • Broad, Practical Experience: Gain well‑rounded exposure to assurance, compilation, and tax-related work, building a strong technical foundation.
  • Growth & Learning: Develop deeper tax expertise through complex compliance, planning exposure, and research.
  • Community & Connection: Enjoy a friendly, collaborative culture, community involvement, firm events, and flexible work options (such as hybrid arrangements and flexibility within core working hours) that support work-life balance.
