Job summary

The Court Services Division of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice seeks a Justice Officer to provide administrative support and be the first point of contact for the public. You will balance monies, enter data, and maintain filing systems in accordance with policies.

You may attend court to call cases and swear witnesses; you may also perform quasi-judicial duties as a Staff Justice of the Peace as assigned.

Qualifications

• One-year post-secondary education in a related field with three years related experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Experience in a computerized environment with accurate keyboarding and data entry.
• Strong communication and customer service skills; ability to handle the public in stressful situations.
• Ability to manage cash and debit/credit transactions; maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Receive and respond to requests related to court matters by phone, fax, and email.
• Receive and receipt all monies paid to the court; balance daily cash; prepare cash reports and deposits.
