Job summary

The University of Niagara Falls Canada seeks a part-time Course Developer for FREN 102 to design and deliver focused reading, comprehension, and writing activities. You will create structured modules, integrate multimedia, and ensure alignment with learning outcomes and accessibility, while collaborating with the Centre for Teaching Excellence team and faculty across UNF.

This 10-week contract offers $7,200 per course and requires a Master’s degree or PhD with at least three years of higher

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in French, French Studies, Applied Linguistics, Education, Curriculum Development, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or course design in French language or related disciplines.
  • Experience teaching or developing introductory undergraduate French courses, especially in reading, comprehension, and writing.
  • Knowledge of accessibility, learner-centered design, and copyright or fair dealing practices in educational contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop course content for FREN 102 with a focus on reading, comprehension, and writing.
  • Create structured modules that help learners interpret short texts, strengthen grammar in context, and develop written expression in French.
  • Develop activities and assessments such as reading responses, grammar-based writing tasks, guided compositions, and comprehension exercises.
  • Integrate multimedia and instructional supports including annotated readings, examples, visual aids, and language practice tools.
  • Ensure all course materials align with learning outcomes, accessibility expectations, and LMS delivery requirements.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to validate completeness, consistency, usability, and instructional quality.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to support timely course development and implementation.

Position Job Titl e: Courseware Developer

Reports To: Director, Centre for Teaching Excellence

Duration & Payscale: 10 Week Contract, $7200 Per Course

Primary Purpose

The University of Niagara Falls Canada is in search of a versatile and experienced Course developer. As a course developer you will report to the Associate Dean & Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and work closely with the developing CTE team, including the Senior Instructional Designer, and other academic and administrative units across the UNF community, in the development of interactive and research-grounded multimedia educational elements in UNF courses and programs. The collaborative nature of this work necessitates that the courseware developer must have excellent soft skills to work effectively on project teams to support course and program development. Coupled with these collaborative skills, the courseware developer will bring with them the ability to use their knowledge to innovate, work independently on multiple projects at one time, and lead the CTE team in its development of best practice multimedia development and data gathering strategies to support the advancement of UNF and its technologically grounded programs. They will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical issues and be proactive in their approach to identifying and addressing potential challenges.

Specific Responsibilities

Skills and Competencies

Strong understanding of beginner-level French reading development, written comprehension, and writing instruction.

Ability to scaffold learning from foundational grammar and vocabulary to short-form written communication.

Experience creating assessments that evaluate reading interpretation, written accuracy, and comprehension.

Familiarity with LMS platforms such as Brightspace, Canvas, or Moodle.

Strong organization, accuracy, and academic content development skills.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree or PhD in French, French Studies, Applied Linguistics, Education, Curriculum Development, or a related field.

Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or course design in French language or related disciplines.

Experience teaching or developing introductory undergraduate French courses, especially in reading, comprehension, and writing.

Demonstrated ability to design assessments that evaluate comprehension, written expression, grammar application, and reading analysis.

Experience developing or adapting courses for online or blended learning environments.

Knowledge of accessibility, learner-centered design, and copyright or fair dealing practices in educational contexts.
