Job summary

Brock Community Health Centre (Brock CHC) seeks a Counsellor/Therapist to provide counselling services for all ages in individual and group settings and to contribute to community health and education initiatives.

The role reports to the Director of Clinical Services and involves collaboration with physicians, nurses, social workers, and allied health professionals within a welcoming Beaverton Beaverton satellite site in a rural North Durham setting.

Qualifications

  • Master of Social Work or Counselling Psychology degree from a recognized university.
  • Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
  • Minimum two years counselling experience with individuals and groups, preferably in the health/social services field.
  • Demonstrated assessment, treatment planning and implementation skills.
  • Proven leadership in community development, organization and engagement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and social services sectors.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable health and social services legislation and regulations.
  • Experience in risk assessments.
  • Alignment with the Centre’s values – equity, confidentiality, compassion, collaboration, responsiveness, education and respect.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counselling and therapeutic support to clients presenting with a range of mental health and psychosocial concerns.
  • Provide psychoeducation and support clients in developing coping strategies, resilience, self-management skills, and connections to community resources.
  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention within the scope of the position, including identification of risk and appropriate referral or escalation when required.
  • Participate in case consultation and team-based care planning.
  • Advocate for clients experiencing barriers to accessing health and social services.
  • Contribute to health promotion, education, workshops and community-based programming where appropriate.
  • Maintain current knowledge of community resources, mental health services and best practices in counselling and psychotherapy.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential documentation in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
  • Strive to achieve provincial performance targets set by Ontario Health.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, medical secretaries, allied health professionals and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

Brock CHC is seeking a Counsellor/Therapist who shares our passion for community-focused health, and is motivated to make a lasting difference in a rural setting where their work will truly matter. The Counsellor/Therapist will provide counselling services for all ages in both individual and group settings and will contribute to community development efforts, health promotion and education initiatives.
