Job summary

Piller's Fine Foods in Waterloo is seeking a Cost Accountant to join our manufacturing team. The role focuses on standard costing, variances, budgeting, and financial reporting to support cost-saving initiatives.

You will partner with Purchasing, R&D, and Manufacturing, maintain costing data, and prepare weekly to quarterly reporting including PPV and labour variance. A 2-3 year cost accounting background in manufacturing is desired; ERP and Excel proficiency required.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment (food/meat processing preferred).
• Experience with ERP and cost accounting systems.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work additional hours during month‑end as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and update accurate standard costing; maintain and verify costing data by entering, reviewing, and analyzing historical information.
• Update raw material standards monthly with forecasted costs from purchasing.
• Ensure running speeds and staffing levels are accurate in recipes and process specifications.
• Review purchase price variances and material variances to ensure standard costs and BOMs are accurate.
• Develop cost estimates for new products, restages, and cost‑savings initiatives.
• Partner with Purchasing, R&D, and Manufacturing to support cost approvals and post‑launch cost appraisals.
• Prepare and present weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational financial reporting, including PPV, labour variance, yield, and inventory reporting.
• Partner with the Operational Controller to support cost‑saving initiatives.
• Reconcile P&L transactions by comparing and correcting data (COS and manufacturing variances).
• Analyze expenses and prepare journal entries related to utilities, hourly labour, and inventory reconciliations.
• Support the annual budgeting process.

THE OPPORTUNITY

• Prepare and present weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational financial reporting, including PPV (Purchase Price Variance), labour variance, giveaway, yield, and production volume, inventory reporting, and manufacturing overhead expense analysis.
• Partner with the Operational Controller to support cost‑saving initiatives.
• Reconcile P&L transactions by comparing and correcting data (COS and manufacturing variances).
• Analyze expenses and prepare journal entries related to utilities, hourly labour, and inventory reconciliations.
• Support the annual budgeting process.

THE REQUIREMENTS
